Hi-
I am anxious to purchase a donor car and tear it up in preparation for June. I am haunting http://www.autobidmaster.com/ looking for the perfect WRX.
Appreciate any info on:
1. Is 1 year WRX better than the other
2. Would you buy a flood damaged car
3. What # indicates a WRX in the VIN of 2007s (9 in the 7th postion no longer works)
4. Autobidmaster experience

I would not buy a flood damaged car. The electronics are not designed to survive outright immersion. They *MAY* be OK, but then again, they may not.
There is also the issue of corrosion. If the flood was salt water, even if everything looks and runs OK now, you may be setting yourself up for problems in the future.
Then there are issues with contamination. What was in the water that may now be growing in or on the various parts? Don't think this is limited to fabrics.
Lastly (that I can think of) are potential issues with the engine, transmission, etc. Did water get into the engine through the intake? Were there any leaks that would allow water to get into those parts if submerged?
All in all, that's a lot of potential risk. I wouldn't do it...
Flood donor, I would plan on sourcing the electronics, perhaps even the wiring harness, separately, from another non-flood car. Obviously not using the seats, not the dash (unless you can tell water didn't get up to the dash).
Good point about nasty stuff in the water. That is going to leave a coating on everything. Be preapred to clean anything you use.
It is a lot of risk. You have to decide if it worth it to you.
I only said yes because some perfectly good cars that would normally sell for $1800 were going for $3k on copart. You could sell enough other good parts to make it a free car more or less.
