Anyone have experience with The Parts Farm?

Looking to finaiize my build once the Mk5 is officially revealed and want to go with a Coyote...but the crate prices put the engine a bit out of reach from a budget perspective with the expected price increase for the new model. I found "The Parts Farm" online, and theyre fairly interesting - they have Coyote pullouts with PBH control packs, and previous Gen engines are VERY reasonably priced (I know you get what you pay for!).

Does anyone have any experience with them - or a similar seller - that they can offer?

I have no personal experience with them but I do have quite a bit of experience reading contracts and their language on their website pretty much puts all liability on the buyer. This is to include return shipping, probably outbound shipping for a replacement and all at their discretion. In addition, you most likely will not be able to take advantage of their 90 day warranty given what's involved in getting one ready to install. I can understand this is a tough business but when all risk is placed on the buyer my radar goes up.

Hopefully you can find some reviews or real world feedback that sheds a positive light.

If the Gen4 is just a bit out of reach right now, what about working on the rest of your build while saving pennies for the engine you really want? Nothing says you need to buy the engine along with the rest of the kit. You can keep yourself plenty busy on the chassis buildup, then get that Gen4 when it's financially feasible.

I purchased my rear IRS from them, no issues. Pretty straightforward process, just make sure you get all your questions answered before you place the order. The other thing to watch is if you don't have a shipping doc, or a business with a Hi-Lo to offload it. You will need liftgate service which is a small up charge.

I also got my engine from domestic performance recyclers. Got a really good deal on a low mileage gen 3. Videos of it running etc etc, https://www.domesticperformancerecyclers.com/

A friend pointed me towards them for a pullout IRS for my Mk5 after he dealt with them for the IRS and Coyote for his Coupe build. Looks like a lot of their drivetrain packages are automatics (not a bad thing; automatic cars are probably treated more kindly than manual cars) but I imagine that you could have them break the engine and trans apart for the right price.

Thanks Jeff, I'll have to check them out! One caution, especially with low mileage Coyotes, is that young drag racers actually prefer the 10R80 for racing because its faster than the 6 speed manuals. Regardless, the risk is there with a pullout engine. Appreciate the recommendation, and Ill have to reach out to them after the holiday!

I got my 2017 Gen 2 Coyote with 15k miles by searching car-part.com. Paid about half the cost of crate engine and it has run flawlessly from the first start. It is very helpful to view running video and pictures of the car damage prior to engine removal.

If you can make your way to a Godzilla they are downright “cheap” in comparison. Brand new crate engine runs $7.6k range. I’ll bet there are all kinds of tweaks to wake that sucker up.

I helped a buddy recently rebuild an F150 coyote. I was really surprised how smooth it went. Now that I know I would consider that in a future project.

At the end of the day the easy button for all of this is an LS. Most bang for your buck outside if a SBF. It’s not a coyote but the sky is the limit there. Stock 430, can push that to 550 plus without a lot of effort.

I don't get why anyone wants a "boat anchor" Godzilla in a cobra. They are way heavy, not something you want in a road carver car, it will handle terrible

It's a truck engine. Literally.

Dodge seemed to do OK with a boat anchor truck engine in the Viper. I hear those ACRs are fairly good at taking corners...

That said, the Godzilla wouldn't be on my short list if I build another FFR.

Knowing the Mk5 will accept a Godzilla, it was an engine I considered. HOWEVER, while the crate is relatively inexpensive comparatively speaking, the aftermarket parts required to make it actually fit (and make it a comparable platform to the Coyote) while overcoming the weight penalties make that savings evaporate quickly. Also, as a lifelong Blue Oval guy, the LS (even a free one) wouldnt be a consideration. No offense to those who use them, but I just couldnt do it.

I know people that have dealt with parts farm. They are actually pretty honest group, everyone I know that has used them really recommends picking up the engine yourself though at their place in georgia. The shipping they use is fairly expensive. But they will work with you. I guess they do most of there sales through ebay inwhich a quick check there shows a very high positive feedback on over 44k items sold. But like always use at your own risk.

Before you can do any tweaks you first have to make it fit. The Godzilla is tall, with much of it's height being below the crankshaft since it has a deep skirted block and the oil pan houses it's variable output pump and all of the controls. That's not a problem when it's in a truck but it definitely complicates things when you go to put it in a roadster. So in addition to that crate engine you'll have to add a Holley low profile pan, pump and front drive conversion to the tune of 2,400. The new front drive requires doing away with the VVT by way of a Mast Motorsports Camshaft & Lockout Gear package for another $1,300. Then you'll need the $2,200 Ford Racing control pack to make it run. So now your "downright cheap" Godzilla is around 14K! It's been done---that's what's in the FFR Mk5 prototype---but it isn't inexpensive. Crate LS is similar in cost...trust me; I've dug deeply into it.

Same here. I've done two crate Coyotes -- Gen 2 and Gen 3 -- and a crate LS in my truck build. There was little/no difference in the cost when all was said and done. That's not theoretical. It's real world experience. If you're talking salvage or pull-outs, likely the LS option is going to be cheaper because there's just so many of them. But based on what I've seen that seems to be omitted from most of the "LS is cheaper..." claims.

No question the Coyote is bigger/fatter than an LS. Tight fit in the Mk4 Roadster, but it fits. Easy in the Gen 3 Coupe and I'm expecting if the Mk5 Roadster is similar, will also be a bit more roomy. That alone shouldn't be a decision factor IMO. I'm not anti-LS, was happy with the decision to put one my truck build just for the experience, but for Roadsters and Coupes, color me blue. OK, let the flaming begin. :p

My Dad bought our complete donor car (2018 GT Mustang) from them several years ago, and the experience was awesome, they even trailered it up here to MA. After several years we finally get to put the car together.

I had a Gen IV Viper with the V10, it had an aluminum block. The truck V10 had an iron block.

The Viper engine was developed and built by Lamborghini and it was quite a few years before it found it's way into a truck. The Godzilla was developed for trucks. I'm doing some development work for Classic Recreations helping stuff a Godzilla into a 68 Mustang. It's quite a job.

I got my gen 1 coyote with a mt82 from thepartsfarm. I accidently overpayed (they offered me a discount but i sent the full price) and they refunded the difference. The engine arrived in a sturdy crate, all secured. I used some of the oak 2x4s for the chassis dolly and body buck. They have been pulling mustang engines for as long as I can remember. I was worried about the first start, but they sent me a video of the car starting before they pulled the motor. I still replaced the plugs and fuel injectors while it was on the engine stand. Had to do the morosso oil pan anyway. It fired right up as promised.

I got my 2018 IRS differential, rear spindles and brakes from midwaymustang.

Pull out the plugs and wind the Coyote over using the starter until oil pressure climbs. Put the plugs in and good to go.
