Fuel System Help and Suggestions

Hey everyone, I need some help and suggestions with my fuel system. I am running a 347 Carb w/ PS from BP and it came with a Red Holley Electric Fuel Pump. I started blindly following the FFR manual and stopped after I mounted the fuel filter (Classic rookie mistake on my part). Then when I realized the pump I have needs to mounted close and below the fuel tank, I paused and read the forums. After reading all the options I now am more unsure and I feel like I need some direct guidance.

With the least amount of modifications necessary (I prefer a more plug n play style), what do you all recommend I do?

- I've thought about mounting the pump as low as possible behind the passenger panel (as shown in picture) but then I'll have to remount the filter somewhere else down the line from the pump (correct me if I'm wrong but I think the pump should be before the filter).

- I've also thought about just taking the stock FFR fuel pickup out and replacing it with an In-tank Pump. Which pump would you recommend for my set-up? If this is the case, do I need to run a return line? (I currently do not have any plans of switching to FI but who knows how I'll feel once I get her running)

- I haven't really thought about a mechanical pump but in terms of price and having to do the least amount of modifications, I'm open to it. If anyone has a similar build and could provide pictures, it'd be much appreciated!

Can't help you with an electric pump on a carb build. Haven't done it. But a hint about a mechanical pump (your last point). Only an option if (1) you have the right front timing cover on your engine. That's where the mechanical pump is mounted. Evidenced by a mounting boss with two screws and a cover over the opening. Some timing covers don't have the mount. (2) the camshaft BP installed has an eccentric on the end the drives the pump. Pretty good chance that since they supplied an electric pump they weren't planning on a mechanical pump and one or both of these wasn't part of your engine build. Technically could be retrofitted if not. But your other options are likely much easier.

Hi Goose. I have the same engine as you and wanted an in-tank pump setup. I have not had first start yet so cannot comment with 100% certainty how this will all work out but this is what I did:

Pro M Hanger
195 LPH in tank pump
3/8" feed and return hard lines
Aeromotive fuel filter
Aeromotive X1 return style regulator setup for a carb

If I ever want to switch to EFI, all the plumbing is done. Aeromotive sells a kit to convert the regulator to EFI pressures.

I can help you with the in-tank returnless pump setup. It's how I went.
I only have a mild 302, but I went with a simple in-tank pump that runs 6psi at the carb wtih no return.

The flow of this pump should be plenty for your 347. The pump I used (in the link) is god for 60GPH at 5psi. Easy +600hp at that flow rate.
It's a cheaper pump to buy, more OEM like, and you can sell that Holley Red pump to easily cover the switch over costs.

Thank you all for your input, I've decided to follow skidd's build and go with the in-tank add on. Seems like an easy and cheap addition with little change to my current setup. Appreciate all your ideas and help!
