Fast EZ-EFI advance
Need some help. I have a Sidedraft Fast EZ-EFI on a Blueprint 306. Running with a MSD 6AL ignition and Petronics Flamethrower II distributor. Initial timing about 10 degrees. I just can't get the timing right. It starts and idles set at 850. After warm-up I increased the throttle very slightly. It went to 2000 rpm...and stayed there even after releasing the throttle. Tried pushing the throttle down to idle. It was already there. No response - stayed at 2000 rpm. Tried kicking the throttle up to knock it down. Went to 2800. Turned it off. Ideas? Running with vac advance on the distributor. Maybe I have both additive advances (electronic, vac, and maybe even centrifugal?)

Are you trying to control the timing through the ECU? Do you have the dizzy locked out?

Thanks for the reply. According to the documentation I've been going through the Fast system doesn't do timing. So I guess that is not it. Maybe the vac advance is wrong and I should just plug that port and see if it runs better?

Maybe also try heavier springs on the dizzy to get as little time advance to start, then work my way up?

First you need to see if the advance is actually working. Take the cap off and turn the rotor by hand and you should see the advance weights spread. Usually it is lighter springs that get installed. You are looking to have full timing in by around 3000 revs. For your engine 33 degrees or so should be max timing.

Thanks. What do you think about the vacuum connection?

I usually don't use the vacuum advance.

Update: blocked off the vacuum advance. Runs even worse. Backfires if I touch the trottle. Starting to question everything. Wondering if the injectors are plugged into the correct wire harness connectors. One thing that I can't find anywhere is the identification of the injector port order on the sidedraft throttle body. I tried to follow the cylinder order, so forward passenger side is port 1 (for cylinders 1&2), port2 is passenger rear (cylinders 3&4), forward driver side is port 3 (cylinders 5&6), and rear driver side is port 4 (cylinders 7&8). Could this be wrong? Anyone know they Inglese Sidedraft port ID's? Note that I have the throttle body mounted so that the linkage is to the rear.

It really sounds like tiimng or firing order or both are way off.
