Hyabusa Tuebo vs EZ30R twin turbo

I have seen some folks doing EZ30 builds, very cool. I was wondering if anyone had looked into a busa turbo build. I have some measurements for the busa engine but I don't know if it would even fit. The busa is 468mm and the EZ30 is 445mm the hartley 2.0 v8 is 536mm so it def doesn't fit. However the H1 v8 from hartley is 485 which is only 40mm larger. I think still to large given that the ez30 builds only have 0.3 inches gap.


Reactions to the size and whether the busa will fit would be greatly appreciated.

Lots a builds out there putting busa engines in all kinds of things, do some digging on transmission options. I’m not sure if using a Subaru transmission is an option, and if so, it may not be the best one. Do a little research and bring back what you’ve found. Seems like every other week we get a new member asking if they’re engine of choice will fit, so there’s lots of info on the forum with regards measurements and potential issues. As someone who’s building a non-Subaru powered 818, be prepared to figure some things out on your own. Good luck, and if you bring back some info we’ll help you determine if it’s a feasible option.

I have a Palatov D4 with a 1300 cc Hayabusa, dry sump, and the OEM sequential transmission controlled by a Geartronics GCU with paddle shifters. Shifting is like driving an F3 race car with that combo. However, you'd have to fabricate a chain drive diff, axles, and all the mounts. And yes you could turbo it easily, Palatov sells the D4 with a turbo. And the AWD Turbo D4 is insanely fast.

However I think an 818 is too heavy for it. You'll want an engine with more TQ, the Hayabusa has next to none. If you ever intend to drive it on the street the Hayabusa in an 818 would not be happy combo. As a pure 818R race car I wouldn't do it either, but I can see it being built. And in a shameless plug, if you want to drive it it will be available to rent at Oregon Raceway Park when the track re-opens this spring, along with renting our 818R. In fact you have to drive the 818R first to qualify to drive the Palatov.

My EZ30 is more like 735mm cover to cover, so your 'busa number is 10+ inches less... Plenty of room side to side. Forward from axles may need review depending on the drive solution.
I loved having a Yamaha R1 powered DSR. Modern bike engines are truly awesome, and any big sportbike engine in the 818 would be a blast. I toyed with the idea in the 818, but took the easy route. *Rotary was tempting too ('used to have an RX3)!
Radical Cars and others have produced reverse gear mechanisms for bike engines.

That car was the inspiration for the Tesla roadster. Some of the early tesla roadsters had Alan's AC motor controllers in them.

Thanks for all the feedback. I've seen the hyabusa v8 from hartley super sick and $$. I don't think there is enough space to fit the V8 version in the 818c. I considered it but I4s barely may fit so i think the Busa v8 is a no go. Torque is definitely an issue. I've considered a hybrid design where an electric motoe would supply low end power. Getting a little complicated at that point though.

I looked a bit at some v4 motorcycle engines but not worth the trouble.

I've also been considering I3 options. Like the bmw motor in the cooper but not enough power to satisfy me.
