About 42Bfast
- Biography:
- Recently retired and Re-retired from the Aerospace industry after 32 years. It was a very challenging career in an unusual, complicated, but oh-so-cool industry. Learned a lot, worked a lot, and enjoyed most of it.
My first car was a 1971 Firebird with factory 4spd and limited slip diff. I've been hooked ever since. Haven't always gone hi performance as I truly enjoy the different driving experience of unique cars. Vehicles ranged from diesel VW Rabbit, to 69 Chevrolet step-side pickup with a 396, to Jeep CJ7, a couple Toyota Land Cruisers, and a few Hondas including a CRX SI, to list a few but by no means, all. The car I owned the longest was a 2000 Miata. (Really great cars for grins per dollar, auto crossing, and carving curves. ) Sold the Miata and bought my current grocery getter, a 2006 Corvette Z51 convertible. (Yes, it has a manual transmission as most of my vehicles have had. Die hard shifty I am. Besides, these days, a manual transmission is an added anti-theft device) Most of my vehicles were bought used and on a tight budget but I always worked to minimize the financial impact by careful purchasing and improving the vehicle during my ownership.
A few years ago as I neared retirement I started acquiring and working on older “project” vehicles, most having a significant amount of rust. (Learning how to deal with that.) Current non-running fleet includes a 1956 Willys wagon, a 1958 Austin Healey 100-6, 1961 MGA, and a 1970 FJ40 Land Cruiser. Obviously, my reach has exceeded my grasp so the Healey project will likely be sold to fund the Cobra paint.
