The Wrenchette: A Girl Buils a Roadster

Steering system installed

Rate this Entry
Next on the list was the steering system. I borrowed my husband's drill press to drill the holes for the brake light switch mount.

Then drilled the holes in the frame for the master cylinder mount.

Master cylinder mount brackets were painted glossy black to match the frame.

Getting the brake and accelerator pedals installed. Always nice when you can sit in the engine bay of the car to reach these places.

Once the pedals were installed, I had to do a test fit of the driving position. ;)

Installing the steering shaft.

Got the front steering rack bolted on and the shaft attached.

And the shaft from the rack to the cockpit.

Everything has been fitted up, so I just need to temporarily disconnect the shaft to paint and install another aluminum panel, which is the one that goes behind the master cyclinders. After that I'll install the shaft again, do the final bolt up, and loctite all of the screws that require it.

Looking good Wrenchette!! Keep up the good work and Pic's!! When you gett the front fooot box panel on and the steering shaft back in temp mount the steering wheel and then you can take it for a imaginary test drive (sitting on floor pan, hands on wheel, big grin, and making VROOOM-VROOM noises!!)

Any trouble with the front rack to control arms? My father and I kept threading and threading and threading away.. We finally put that part down to rest for a bit havent come back yet.
Looking good!! I think we are getting tied in the race!!

Austin - Yes! Very tight, and couldn't get the first one threaded all the way. Backed it off and started over. Put some anti-sieze grease on the threads and that really helped.

Thanks for the update Wrenchette! I just had a guy over yesterday to help do the brake lines (Yes I cheated and paid someone, figured it was importaint those were done right) I asked him what he thought and he said the same thing. Anti-sieze works wonders! Hope to see a new post soon = )
