Tires

I have loved the Daytona Coupe from the first time I ever saw one back in the 60’s. I didn’t know anyone was making a kit car version until a few years ago but I always knew that if I ever built a kit car it would have to be that coupe.

I have designed, built, and raced many DSR’s with very good success. But last year my back injuries caught up with me. Because of the pain meds I take I can no longer get a competition license so I have decided to sell all my racing team which includes two complete cars with trailers and tons of spare parts. I figure this should be enough money to get started on a Type 65 Coupe and clean out my garage so I will have a place to work on it.

I have spent a lot of time figuring out what parts I want to use and I have come to the last item, the tires. I want to use the Halibrand 17x9 and 17x10 wheels along with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires. The problem is the recommended tire size for the front wheels is 245 /45 R17 which is 25.7” in diameter but the Eagle F1 GS-D3 doesn’t come in a 245/45 R17. It does come in a 275/40 R17 and 25.7” in diameter. This is the same diameter but is there a clearance problem with the wider cross section? Is there another problem with running a 275/40 R17on the front that I haven’t considered?

Thanks

If you have clearance problems with turning, you can always use steering rack limiters. They should be available from Ford. Part number is N804842-S.

I believe MMarshall was running 315 (up front! still can't believe it) but I know he auto-x'd with them and I don't remember him having an issue with rubbing. You might try PM'ing him (tell him MPTech sent you).

Thanks for the replays. Sorry it took so long to answer but I don’t get over here often enough.

    Thanks,
