4/13/2010 Finally tore into the front end suspension. The tie rods gave me a real headache getting them out. I ended up getting a pickle fork and ball joint remover from Harbor Freight. The Pickle fork just bent and tore up the boot. The ball joint tool made short work of them. The tool was a little too small to get the actual ball joints out. So for now, they are stuck in there. Ill get them out during he parts prep portion. Also grabbed the emergency brake handle and lines. ...
I was planning on having to refurb the old CV joints and transfering them to new shorter axle shafts, but full axles came. My only "problem" was that they didnt have ABS tone rings on them. I decided to try and transfer them over from the old to the new. It looks like a success. I guess I am mildly worried that the shock from me knocking them off and on with a hammer. (I tried to be as gentle as possible) might affect their magnetism somehow and render them useless. Time ...

The pumpkin came with 3.08 gears. I hemmed and hawed about wether I wanted to run those with my 302 or switch them out for the longest time. Then I went to tear down the pumpkin for cleaning and the pinion just didnt want to come out. Someone on the forums said that was a sign of the diff overheating sometime in the past. I considered the gears damaged at that point and went on the lookout for some 3.55's which is what my research led me to believe was the best all around gear for my use. Found ...
04/20/2010 Well, this marks the final day of the teardown. Yay!! It was a bunch of small parts. The biggest being the steering rack. I plan on de-powering it and running manual steering so I just cut the lines.
