Stir Crazy

Rate this Entry
I realized I was going stir crazy waiting for my kit to arrive (currently day 23) when my floor level body buck started to grow. It first grew legs to put the body approximately six feet off the floor. Then it sprouted two shelves which will be perfect for storing parts in boxes. When it was about to grow a third shelf, and angle cut support struts, it hit me. I desperately need my kit to get here so all of this energy can be channeled into my car, and not what is a glorified piece of furniture.

So I've turned my attention and energy to my build plan/budget, which has been neglected while I spent so much time in my man-cave. For those planning a build in the future, I would encourage you to use something similar to wrap your head around the sheer number of parts and options. Understandably, this endeavor can quickly balloon out of control, over budget, and behind timeline with little to no warning. I am viewing it as an exercise to test my logistical skills and financial planning abilities. More on that later.

I've attached a slightly cleaned up version of my build plan/budget. Anyone could probably easily deduce what the major components of my bulid will be, but to save you the time, here are the highlights:

Mk4 complete kit
Coyote 5.0 crate engine
Tremec TKO 600 (TCET5008) mid-shift
Independant Rear Suspension
Torsen Differential (3.73 final drive ratio)
Halibrand Replica Wheels
- 17"x9" front (275/40R17 tires)
- 17"x10.5" rear (315/35R17 tires)

This is a .xlsx file for excel but it wouldn't work without zipping it first. Let me know if you have any problems

    Budget???

When I started to build our car, I was told to estimate the cost of everything that I wanted to use/buy/etc, double it, look at it. Then, crumble the estimate, throw it away and to never think of it again.

I talked to Gordon Levy last week. His advice was to complete a budget, then after you're done, double it. If you spent time here on the forums, then double it again and you might get close. I know a budget is a four letter word to some, or Greek to others, but I have enjoyed working on it. Plus, it gives me one central place to collect my thoughts and ideas.
