IRS - Axles

Rate this Entry
I was planning on having to refurb the old CV joints and transfering them to new shorter axle shafts, but full axles came.
My only "problem" was that they didnt have ABS tone rings on them. I decided to try and transfer them over from the old to the new.
It looks like a success. I guess I am mildly worried that the shock from me knocking them off and on with a hammer. (I tried to be as gentle as possible) might affect their magnetism somehow and render them useless. Time will tell.

Heres a few photos I took during the switch.

This photo shows the old vs new cv joints side by side. They are very slightly different..the old one has a slightly longer body but they appear identical as far as the spline and bearing area are concerned. The old one wanted to tip toward the splies so the perspective is slightly off.

And heres the finished product. Looks like a good fit. The pipe is what I used to tap the ring on with.
