I took the frame in bare metal. I had heard stories of the powder coating chipping during the build and theres no way to repair that. Also, I had visions of cleaning up all the weld spatter and pretifying things...visions pass.

First step is cleaning all the greasy protective stuff they coat metal in. I used marine clean from the por-15 guys. I really went to town. Used up a couple rolls of paper towels, a box or two of scotchbrite pads and a couple weekends of work time...it was a real pain in the you know what. Then etched it with metal ready..also from por-15. Just spray it on and let it sit for a few minutes before spraying down with water. Turned the metal a nice grey color.

Theres me painting away. Its a long process trying to get paint into all the nooks and crannies. I gave up on pretty worrying about runs and just gooped it into deep cracks. Hard to tell from a distance and impossible to tell once its covered in aluminum..so what the heck.
Tip: paint the inside of the cage first then work your way to the outside pieces...all those bars make a maze for you to twist your arm through and por doesnt wash off...wore long sleeves to work that week...luckily I got most of it off my face before having to go out in public...most of it.
