Last week had a lot of little project that I couldn't finish. Started with pedal box, but didn't have hydro booster mount, ordered it from FFR, should be here in couple of days. Second project on hold- fuel tank, got fuel tank straps that doesn't fit nicely, the guy from ebay shipped it yesterday, so fuel tank is on hold till next week also. Installed rear end, but still waiting for coil overs. So even I have rear control arms attached, the rear end placed on jack stands. Then decided to install firewall, but didn't want to rivet it in before I receive my heater, I wanted to cut holes before firewall installed. It was ordered last week also and it sitting on my work bench in the garage. It's Sunday's morning project, need to finish it before football starts:)
Just because I had some free time, I found a guy who was selling his Ford 302 engine from '89 mustang GT. Well my buddy found it and showed it to me:) My other buddy and I went to pick it up yesterday. I liked what I saw, but I let my buddy Kevin to make decision if I should get it, since he is really knowledgeable in this field. Shortly after he game me OK the engine was sitting in my garage on the engine stand.

I know it looks dirty, but that's exactly what I was looking for- good core engine. I didn't want to buy finished product, I wanted to rebuild an engine and make it the way I want to.
I'm still don't have final decision if I'm going to build 306 or 331strocker. Either way it's 302 block. I'm leaning towards 306, just because I don't think that I need extra low torque, since the car will be only ~2200#.
I was really happy after today's 6 hours spent in the garage. Everything came easy from this engine and most important block wasn't cracked. Basically everything, what came from the engine, looked like it was used for 80K miles.

But, like I said, I will swap almost everything with higher quality parts to get much higher HP than I could get from stock 302 engine with Cobra's GT40 heads.
Next week I will take the block to machine shop, so they can tank it, burn it and whatever else they need to do to make it clean. Next time I'll see this block in my garage it will be clean, bored 0.03 over and will have new camshaft bearing.
It's funny how small it looks without heads, manifold and front accessories
