Rat Eater Build

Rear end

Rate this Entry
While waiting for the kit to arrive, I purchased rear end from '97 mustang cobra SVT with 11.65" brakes and 3.55 gear ration. Received rear end couple days later and was pleased with condition of the part.

Seller even turned rotors and installed new brake pads. It was nice of him, but I'm planning to upgrade to drilled/slotted rotors and performance brake pads.
Gears looked really good and gear oil was clean. From the smell of oil I could tell that Ford friction modifier was used- great news!

After striping paint and sanding down to metal, primer was applied. Next day I painted the rear end. It looked good after first layer, but second one didn't hurt:) Here it is, ready to be installed

Gooh! Black looks really nice, I told my painter to go silver with out thinking too much into it.. Hope I didn’t make a mistake.
Post an update when you get it installed I’m curious how difficult it is.

Did u consider powder coating? I'm at the same spot and have just sanded down to metal and will probably go with paint. Did you use a gloss or a satin black and what type of primer did u use?

    thanks!

I though about powder coating, but the part is too big for 18" oven. I bough my primer and paint from eastwood. Get the more expensive one, it's really durable and easy to use. Going back to powder coating, I'm glad I didn't, it looks really good painted.
