What a saga!
Ok, Im almost back to square one (minus a few bucks)...but now I know exactly what I need and want.
Summary so far:
Took back the v6 and got pick-a-part credit...would have prefered cash, but oh well..there are things I still need so it will get used.
Purchased NWC rebuild kit and preceeded to rebuild the nwc out of the mustang...and then things started going strange....
I contacted speace-atl from the other forums for a question about my 3-4 synchro keys. He runs a t5 specialty shop in Atlanta. What a great guy!
We swapped about 20 emails and he shipped some old servicable parts for the cost of shipping alone and then had about a 90 minute phone conversation...all pro-bono from his end..
Well, we concluded that my t5 was in all probability from a 4 cyl mustang with maybe a non-standard 5th gear (possibly from a camaro) stuck on.
Wow, that sucks!
So, its junk and the rebuild kit I bought is wasted money...back to square one and looking for a tranny to use.
Now however, I know exactly what Im looking for and what mods I will have to do to get it where I want to be. Now just to find the trans.
Unfortunately, Las Vegas is not that big of a city and just doesnt pop with this sort of stuff on craigslist...and the pick-a-parts are pretty picked over.
So, Im looking elsewhere..Seattle and San Diego area mostly. I have a mechanically inclined friend in Seattle who can make the purchase and hold it for me until I get up there next (which is often), and I can arrange to ship it home. I get a pretty killer deal with fed-ex...hoping for around $50 for ground shipping...
Anywho..Im out about $250 for the rebuild kit..
Im conflicted about that. On the one hand, it sucks for sure. On the other, I started this venture as a project that I wasnt a pro at..so I knew I would make mistakes and I chose the donor route because I wanted to get into the guts of it all and not just put together a lego set...so setbacks are to be expected...and I learned a ton...so there is that.
