Front brake calipers for the Mk4 Roadster

Rate this Entry
Help! I have the 17' Halibrand wheels and want the Baer 13' rotors. Any idea what would be a great caliper for the front wheels? I wanted to go with the cobra 95' dual piston calipers but believe they won't fit on these rotors. Will they fit on a 12' or should I just go with a different caliper?

On the rear, again I am planning on the 13' rotor but was using stock Mustang 95' calipers. Are these okay?

cheers

    Hi Howie,

Am I understand correctly, you want to use bigger(rear) or same size rotors on the front and rear? I'm not an expert, but you need different size brakes front and rear. As the brake is applied there is a change in the balance of weight distribution on all four tires caused by the vehicle pitching down on the front. This places more weight on the front tires. If there was more braking taking place on the rear tires than on the front, there would become an over-steer condition and the back of the vehicle would skid out.
I'm using Cobra brake setup 11" rear, 13" front.

That's great advice. So just to confirm that for the 13" front you are using the dual piston Cobra caliper with the Halibrand 17' wheels and there is enough clearance?

    thx

I'm using 13" cobra brakes and 18" rim. But 17" should work, if I remember correctly Mustang Cobra came with 17" from the factory.

You can use the same size brakes from front to rear, the just need to be proportioned correctly.
