I got a 90gt as a donor and I assumed it was a World Class T5 (because of the year). Well, today we got to tearing it down and it is some sort of frankenstein t5...some parts look like world class while others appear non-world class...definitely not the stock tranny. Definitely been taken apart before and not put back together very well. Base tranny I would say is NWC based on the case.
Last week (before the teardown started), I picked up a t5 from an S10 off craigslist in order to do the midshift conversion.
Today, after concluding that I didnt want to use my donor trans, we headed to the pick a part (actually 2 pick a parts) and the only thing we could find with a t5 in it was a 95 v6. Quick googling showed that they were actually rated to a little more torque than the v8's were and the only thing needing changing was the input shaft (the v6 is longer).
Im seeing several new input shafts on ebay in the $65 range...but Im thinking of using the one from the donor...it seems in good shape...havent decided yet.
Sumamry of $ invested so far:
Donor t5: Some fraction of $850 paid for donor.
S10 T5: $150
V6 t5: $180
I dont think Im going to be out much money when all is said and done..I think these things are worth more than I paid for them parted out..or at least very close.
