View Full Version : Donor Turn Signal Questions

I used the donor turn signal switch, and mounted it under the dash on the left side, as per the manual.
I'm kind of tall, so my left leg interferes with the turn signal, and sometimes my knee turns on the high beams.
My question is - is there a good alternate location for the turn signal module? Suggestions appreciated.

One more thing - I forget to turn off the turn signal sometimes. Can the detent thing be removed from the donor unit, so it will cancel itself if not being held on?

Thanks,
Rich

Did you shorten it? Not sure if the manual still covers this. We used to cut an inch or two from the length. Not sure on the self cancel detent. Maybe you might want to consider an aftermarket alternative like the Russ Thompson turn signal system.

Thanks, Michael,
I did shorten it as per the manual, and I desperately want the RT system.
Until I'm ready to spring for the RT, I thought I might find a better spot for it.

Hey Rich. Trust me just spring for Russ's set up. He is crazy quick with the turn around of your hub. My old TR6 had a left turn that stuck. Nearly t boned another car because of it. I feel safety is paramount and to wreck your car or worse personal injury would be a tragedy.

Mike how do you shorten the OEM stalk? Are there any photos our here on the web? I did a search on the other forum but came up empty

Pics please... I am also at this point in the build... considering either the donor or 3rd party route. Would appreciate pics for both.

retownsendjr,

Sure would like to see pics of your installation of the donor turn signal. I tried doing it on the steering shaft (couldn't get it to work) and then mounted it as the manual suggests with the shortened staulk sticking out under the dash to the left of the steering wheel. The reason I abandoned that plan was I read that there was not a brake circuit built into the switch so I would have had to change my light wiring scheme. So I went with an AAW toogle switch that plugged directly into my harness plug (with brake circuit). I will probably revisit the turnsignal issue later but didn't want to slow it down any more than it was.

So it would be interesting to see how you did it (a little confused as to where you have it located). Thanks, WEK.
