Another question on our proposed build. What do you use for a 9" housing? Being we plan on using an FE 427 I'm not sure an 8.8 would be optimum.

Currie Enterprises makes a 9" to fit the 4-link pickup points and is the correct FOX Mustang width.

Really isn't necessary. The 8.8 with good gears and a 31 spline Torsen and matching axles will be more than strong enough to handle what every you will put through it.

I used a Moser housing and axel package Randys ring and pinion did the center section. Total was about two grand. The hardest part was modifying the three link bracket. Best part was all new stuff nothing used. should handle 1000HP. only sees 500.

Have to agree with Gordon. I think many get caught up in horsepower and torque numbers and sometimes even engine size. Bottom line is that on the street you can tell all of your buddies that you have 800 HP but where are you going to use that? An 8.8 with 28 spline axles and good gears will easily handle upwards of 500 HP in a 2500 lbs. car. The bigger issue is traction. A 9" is nice but you're going to pay a premium to have Currie or another reputable builder supply you with one.

I have a Dana Quick Change on my bucket list. Can't say it's practical but it sure is pretty! And if you are going to pay out for a premium item like above, the gear changing aspect is priceless for a track/street user. WEK.

Listen to Gordon. As Frank says traction will be the issue. Unless you're going to run slicks on a well treated track you won't be able to hook it hard enough to hurt a prepped 8.8.

If you do decide to go 9 inch, I would call Moser. They make the axles for 8.8 FFR so would at least be familiar w/ what is needed to fit into the car.
Moser makes a direct fit 9" with the banana bracket installed.
