I already have the nice fitting upper boots. While I have everything apart I may as well put some durable boots on.

If nobody has ordered them yet I will sort through the specs soon and post the part numbers here.

Geoff, Could you post the numbers of the uppers as well?
Thanks'

The upper is energy suspension boot part # 913130G - this gets you a pair of uppers (which is dust boot 13009)

I don't have the lower yet.

The lower is not easy to find. I was looking for a durable poly boot but no luck so far.

FYI, if you order the red uppers they will NOT be graphite impregnated. If you want that type order the black ones.

I might just have to live with the lowers but it would be nice to have the part number for replacement parts. Anybody still have theirs in the bag/box with the number??

Has anyone found lower boots, was working on mine this weekend and noticed my lowers are starting to show cracking. It has been in the garage for last 18 months being built so it has neer seen any road grime yet. I had already put the top energy suspension boots on. Kinda frustrates me that the rubber boots are drying out and cracking already.

I haven't found a compatible part yet. I'll start looking again now that I'm back from my tdy "vacation".

I looked around and didnt find anything right away. Curious if mustang ball joint boot will fit. Auto parts store is getting me one in for a couple bucks. If it fits I know what to get from there in Urethane.

Well, the mustang Ball joint is a tad small on base diameter, not sure it woudl stay in place. May try it. Going to keep looking.

Since FF5 is monitoring this forum, why dont hey jump in here and comment? Surely they can tell us where they buy the current ones that crack and then maybe we can find out if that company makes the same size in a compund that doesnt crack. I am on my second set. I have not retorqued the ball joint as i am waiting to see it they crack again. I have already screwed up my powder coat beating on it to get it apart the first time. If i have to do it again, i'm gonna be even more pissed.

I posted on the ask a tech section also and have gotten zero reponse. I have to call again to discuss the fact I need to do major cutting to get my aligment on front, so I will ask again when I call.

stang_killer,
Please let us know what you find out about the front end alignment. I spent all day yesterday trying to align the front end. My lower control arms have the dimensions that FFR noted are current in a post on the other forum (11" front lower arm, 13.75" rear lower arm from end of tube to center of ball joint) but when I get the camber and tow OK then the castor is way off. When I get the castor OK then the camber and tow is way off. It looks like I am going to have to shorten the lower rear tube the 0.60" that Rumbles did in his post #151 on the other forum. I'm not yet sure about cutting the outer steering tie rod as he did but I will wait until I get the front end disassembled before I decide on that. Any help or info you can provide will be appreciated.

Jim, I am waiting in FF to get back with me. We confirmed and came to conclusion I have to shorten either outer tie rods, inners or both to get what I need to toe in. I had to cut my arms like Rumbles to get caster and Camber set. I have ride height set at 5" in back and 4.5" in front. Measured the front under the firewall and rear at end of frame in front of rear wheel. I found some outer tie rods that are 5 1/4" still not enough so I may cut the original ones some more to get me there for now. FF is checking with unisteer about shorter inners. I also suggested we could go longer and then use mustang II outer ends which measure 3 3/4. I am real close and holding to see what they come back with. I also think if they would add about 3/4 to 1" more of thread on inner tie rods from unisteer we would have plenty to work with and can cut the inners to length if needed. Set your caster and camber first. Every adjustment of either caster of camber changes the other some. Make sure you have your ride height set first. I am still not thrilled with the cutting that we have to do on the steering arms. I understand how much tire selection effects things but I would think FF could come up with detailed specs on so that if your tires are within that range the arms are good from the factory and include information on what has to be done if you go larger or smaller. I may increase my ride height some to get a little more clearance on road. Trying to keep steerign rack level at ride height.

ok, proceeded with a solution while I waited on a call back. went back to tie rod ends shipped with kit but found they were not drilled and tapped very deep. Ok plan B. I found outer tied rods for 80 fairmont. fits some other cars including some mustangs measure 5" and have plenty of thread depth. I used these and trimmed them down 1/2 inch. The part number for these tie rods are ES2128RL. Between the different outers and trimming the inner about 1/2 to 3/4 I am in the ball park. I trimmed so I have about 1/2 of threads showing on the inner tie rod on each side. I have it real close using Rumbles approach for setting caster, camber and toe in. I should have plenty of adjustment now when I take it to alignment shop for final. I called FF back and talked to Jason to give updates. He had not heard back from unisteer yet concerning different inners. provided him this info. I asked him while on the phone what lower ball joints are on car. He told me they are supposedly 87-98 mustangs. so I am going to see if I can find some urethane lower ball joint boots. Will post if i find ones that work.

ok, ended up taking day off today so I went to auto store. They had a set of energy suspension boots for the 87-98 mustang(cheap 3.50 each). They looked a little different as they dont have the metal band built in like the FF supplied. I gave them a try anyway and hey they fit. So here is the scoop I purchased 9-13130G ball joint boot for mustang. They match the uppers that i had already put on. so finally a part number for the boots.

I'm surprised by that picture, mine look bad but not that bad. I just picked up the new boots from AutoZone.

Please confirm that 9-13130G is the right number for the lower boot. It's the same number that Geoff gave for the upper boot. I ordered (2) sets and it appears that this boot is too small for the lower.

Thanks,
