Did anyone in Michigan have to have windshield washers to pass inspection and if so how did you do it

Windshield washer is on the safety check form, which you probably know. When I had my Mk3 inspected a couple years ago, I didn't try to install a washer. Based on the suggestion of several forum members, I had a squirt bottle in one of the cupholders inside the car when the officer came to inspect. As he was going over the form and inspecting my car, when he came to the washer, I explained the original didn't have washers, but had the bottle just in case. When he was all done and signed the form, he handed it to me. I noticed he left the washer checkbox empty. I asked if this would be a problem when I took it to the SOS for title and license. He said he didn't know, paused for a second, reached in his pocket, took out a pen and checked the box. That was it. The officer (from Oakland County Sheriff's office) was generally pretty friendly and interested in my car, the build, etc.

So long story to say I guess it depends on the officer inspecting your car. Technically it is required. I have no idea if the squirt bottle helped. I'm guessing it didn't. I think mainly I was just lucky. I haven't heard other MI experiences with the washer requirement. Good luck with yours.

If you end up needing washers, ********** has the rudimentary Lucas components. ~$135 will get what you need. What shows looks pretty good. Hopefully you won't need it.

Summit racing also has a cheaper alternative- 39 bucks for the complete universal kit

I have the one from **********. It works well and looks "vintage".
