Need help once again from the very knowledgeable folks on this site.
two questions,
I have a 351 Windsor from the engine factory with less than 3k miles on it. Yet every once in a while when I go to start it, the most horrible sound comes from the engine. As I crank it, it sounds like the engine is a block full of twisted metal that just grinds into one another. I mean it really sounds harsh.
Yet when I stop and crank it again it sounds fine. Should I worry? I had issues with the engine before and had to ship it back to EF.
Second question is,.. and this may be a stupid one, as I drive, when I make a sharp turn, the engine sounds like it wants to die, forcing me to rev it up. what's up with that.

Other than that TOTALLY enjoying the ride. Thanks Dave and FFR

Rome, first thing that comes to mind is the starter. I'd remove it and take a look at the teeth on the flywheel to make sure the starter is fully engaging.

As far as the other problem, I'll let one of the experts chime in.

Good luck!

The second issue is carb. You probably have the Edelbrock carb the they tend to use a lot of. I would recommend changing it out to a quickfuel or like high quality carb.

Thanks guys. Would that explain why my MPG is so low as well?

Yes it would

Yes it would

Thanks so much,.. I'm curious, what's the logic?,.. why would the engine seem to want to stall when I make a sharp turn? what does turning have to do with engine idle?

I'm also thinking of converting my engine to fuel injection, what do you guys think?

Fuel sloshes in the bowls and since the bowls are on the sides they slosh more in corners.

I am a FAST dealer and have been using a lot of their systems and they work really well. Please feel free to give me a call and we can talk over a proper system for your car.

Try this test. Get up to speed and make a hard (panic) stop. If the engine starts to flood and stop, it's the carb. There are cures without replacing the carb. Try those first.

Mike, The edelbrock carb bowls are in the sides and not the front and back so it is effected through corners where a Holley would be effected under throttle or braking.
