So I'm still looking to purchase my own trailer, but the build is progressing faster then the trailer shopping. Which means I have to pick up the roadster from the body shop tomorrow. So, I'm having to rent a trailer, and just realized that I've never tied a car to a trailer before. Does anyone have any diagrams or descriptions on the best way to do this? I was planning to just figure out how to use ratcheting straps from the frame to D-hooks on the floor, but figured I'd best not make assumptions on the off-chance I break something or don't secure the car well enough.
Advice is appreciated. Pictures or diagrams are hoped for!

On the front, wrap the strap around the lower control arms, or attach to an eye hook in the 4" tubes if you have them.
On the back,it depends on what you have - IRS or solid axle. Use a criss cross pattern. If IRS attach to the IRS cage and attach the left side of the car to the right D hook on the trailer. Repeat for right side. Ratchet as tight as you can. If solid axle, go around the shock mount and do the same X pattern

I'd do these at all 4 corners.

What Bill said. Then check and if necessary retighten the straps after a few miles and at every gas stop.

If you're renting a trailer, most use the car hauler from U-Haul. I used one 3-4 times before I had my own enclosed trailer. It has wheel tie-downs like in post #3 for the front tires. The trailer also has chains to tie down the back, but I never used them for the relatively short hauls I did. For my own trailer, I ordered a set of 10,000 lb tie-downs from Macs Custom Tie Downs, and set up similar to what other guys have suggested.

X4 but with something to add. If you tie down sprung weight in the front then tie down sprung weight in the rear. If you tie down un-sprung weight in the front then tie down un-sprung weight in the rear. You don't want to do one way in the front and another in the rear, the straps loosen up quickly this way and the car react dangerously on the trailer in a panic stop if tied down that way.
