View Full Version : Wiring of Power to the Wiper Motor?

The brain just isn't working today, so figured I'd ask what is probably a very simple question. When wiring the FF Wiper Motor into the Roadster, I'm using the Wiring diagram from Factory Five. My question is about where I connect the power from the fuse panel (the purple wire). By the diagram (See attached) it connects to the wiper motor on the same terminal as the white switch wire that runs back to the switch. Since they (white and purple) are effectively "merged" at that point, is there any reason I just can't connect the white switch wire and the purple power wire at the switch instead of the wiper motor?

The reason I ask is that I have the purple wire inside the dash, and it's easier for me to connect the two at that point, rather than having to extend the purple wire and run it out to the motor. Please let me know... (I have a feeling when I see the responses I'm going to be embarrassed that I couldn't figure this out myself)

Never mind responding. The more I think about this, the more I realize it was a silly question. I can obviously connect the power at the switch instead of the motor... sorry to have wasted everyone's time.

Follow-up question... very similar to this.

I have the Ron Francis wiring solution made for Factory Five. I too see the purple wire behind the dash. Does this wire go to the wiper switch? I think so. If that is the case, where is the other end of the power wire for the wiper motor? I would assume it's inside the engine bay somewhere but I can't find the other end.

Or perhaps the reason I can't find the other end is that it doesn't exist meaning that I need to run the wire myself from the switch to the wiper motor - could that be it?

The only wire in the RF harness for the wiper is the mentioned purple wire behind the dash. It can be connected to the switch behind the dash as described, at the other end of the white wire from the diagram. There are no other wires in the harness. FF provides a 4-conductor flat cable (Green-Yellow-Brown-White) that is intended to go between the dash switch and the wiper motor. You will need to make a hole in the firewall to pass it through. Cover with convolute and grommet the hole in the firewall.

Got it, thanks.
