In relation to Description: Kirkey Racing Seats

Part : # 15304

The question is how do you get these seats to fit in the Type 65 Daytona Coupe

I tried my best to install them, No Luck.
I even got a top shop and a body shop to help. here again No Luck.
For whatever reason they appear to be too big.

The car is coming along rapidly, and this is one of the question left to be resolved.

I have the Kirkey intermediate high back racing seats, which come with the kit. They fit fine but are an absolute pain to install! Mine sit flat on the rear angled part of the seat with a 3/4" support tube under the front. No brackets, they bolt thru the floor and in my case the 4" tube for extra strength. I did do the Salvaggio mod on the driver side to lower the seat 2" for extra head room, and if I had it to do over would do this on both sides the same. It also helps to angle them a little toward the outside of the car, as the foot boxes are angled and rather small.

I ma having the same challenge-- especially on the pass side where the seat wont fit between the harness bosses and the e-brake-- i will try tonight to angle them backward as per tcoon.

I moved my e brake to the top of the trans tunnel. I was concerned I may not be able to reach the e brake if I was belted in. I don't know how you could make it fit without moving the e brake.

actually folks, i just came in from an afernoon of chugging away at the car. Got the windshield on, the exhaust on, the tunnel screwed down , and the seats in-- the pass seat ended up fitting as long as i moved it back, and turned it ever so slightly. You cant notice the turn unless you really look for it. -- it is tight, but it works.

In roadsters most people angle the seats. Mine are parallel to the tunnel. Some don't go quite that far but do angle them somewhat toward the outside of the car. I don't even notice the angle and never did even at the beginning.

I also have my e brake on top of the tunnel. North race cars kit, is very slick and easy to install.

What is the [Karen] Salvaggio mod? Is it detailed in a post here, or the "other" forum?

I am about to put my seats in, and I am 6'2"...

Thanks!

Check Karen's blog on the construction of her competition coupe. In short, the 4" frame tube is sectioned to 2" then boxed in on an angled bias with a 1/8" plate to which you can bolt the seat. Stronger, minimal weight gain, 2" lowering of seat height...an absolute necessity for anyone 6' and over. Road race tested in three 25 hour enduro races. Rick Anderson (rocket) has detailed plans and templates...
