I was looking at getting the vintage race seats to give me a little more leg room and was wondering what the max seat width that will fit in a MK3.

The Kirkey seats we carry are 16" wide at the base. You can definately fit a 17" Kirkey in the cockpit and you should be able to sqeeze an 18" Kirkey. If you want to use the 18" seat it would probably have to be mounted all the way to the rear of the cockpit as the trans tunnel is wider at the front. If you have shorter legs the 18" seat might not be the best choice because it would have to mount farther back.

Best regards,

I have the Kirkey 18" all the way back and it has been a great addition to my car.

I have an 18" Kirkey 41V on the driver's side, but went with a 17" on the passenger side. My ebrake is mounted on the side of the trans tunnel and I would have had to point the 18" inch seat way to the outside to clear the ebrake handle. With the 17" it's not a problem. Also, I recommend getting the lumbar supports -- they really improve the comfort of these seats.

Thanks guys! I will try the 18" for the drivers side, that should get my wide body a little lower and further back.

Will the 18" seats fit straight, or do they need to be angled?

Straight or angled depends on how much leg room you need. I'm 6'4" so the seats are pushed all the way back, meaning they are angled slightly. You get used to it really quickly.

The lumbar support is a shaped foam pad with snaps you rivet to the seat back. They were $13 each when I got them. If you don't see them on the Kirkey site check out Summit Racing.

I just completed installing two 17" seats and I put the drivers seat on adjustable track because the seats offered so much leg room that I needed the movement. My sons are 6'-4" and it works great for them and I'm shorter and now I can move the seats to suit me. I also installed them on a slight angle to allow easier entry and exit. The side supports can make getting in and out more difficult. I have pictures if you want to see them. I don't know how to insert the photos here so PM me. The 18" seat is very tight. Seats are very comfortable and look great.
