I been looking around on how to register the car in NY (Long Island). Is this an easy task?

I am looking to have a fun weekend warrior I can drive around but yet take to a track and have fun with.

In terms of the build, I think it will be a piece of cake since I build cars for a living.

Welcome - Not sure if you are familiar with "the other site" but there was a discussion concerning this previously over there:
http://www.ffcars.com/forums/21-ffr-type-65-coupe/282973-ny-coupe-owners.html

The SEMA page has some good information:
http://www.bipac.net/page.asp?content=tag_title_toolbox&g=SEMAGA

There are some hurdles but not insurmountable. Start by getting the information packet for a home built vehicle from Albany (most the contained information is in the PDF of the SEMA site). Some of the issues:

- Bumpers required
- Plastic side windows will not pass (I am going without)
- I have heard that not all of the light lenses have the proper DOT stamps
- Paper trail for all major components required

Agree with Todd, get the packet, as far as a piece of cake, coupe has some challenges

Out of curiosity...what have you seen done for Bumpers on a coupe?...other than Ron Schofield's car.

Hey Marc-- i made a couple side bumpers (all thats required here in NB) out of 2" square stock. Basically a "U" shape -- two 4" peices connected by a 12" peice, and mounted on two 6x6 peices of thin plate == then i bolted them to each side behind the wheel and above the tank

Karen has a functional rear bumper on her old coupe.

Gary, I sent you a PM, not sure if you are looking to start from scratch or finish one that's
already in progress. If the later, let me know, mine is going nowhere and I would definately
consider selling it as is.
