Hi guys,

I need a little help with forced induction. The motor I have has a ton of power but I love top speed events (the 1 mile events where you can put down 1000hp in a 2800lb car). As long as I can get the car stable at high speeds, I know me and me is going to want to add more power! Let me start by telling you what I have already as far as drive train. I purchased a crate motor from Mast Motorsports. When I purchased the motor I was not planning on doing this for sure. So I went with there naturally aspirated set up. Talking to them latter a bought going with boost I was told that the motor like it is can handle 6lbs of boost. I have a Porsche GT2 G96/88 trans and my race shop's 300M axles so I should be good to handle it.

I have never owned a boosted car so I am by far no expert in this area. I would like to hear from some of you guys what you think about this.

What kind of power could my motor make at 6lbs. I would really like to be putting down 1000hp.

As I would probably not be doing this my self how much might some shop charge to build this custom setup? I would not be looking for anything fancy or some super custom katrillion dollar looking set up like that Nelson race engines GTM.
Also my car would be complete at the time of adding turbos.

Little info on the motor

Mast Motorsports Black Label 454 LSX Iron Block. 710Hp 625ft. The GM performance parts LSX block. (not the pickup truck block)
12:1 compression ratio
4.185 X 4.125 Bore and Stroke
7250 RPM
FAST LS7 intake
90mm GM throttle body
M-90 DBW Calibrated ECM

Hi Flowtown

I have a mast motorsports ls3 that makes 80 less hp and 75 less ft lbs. and it's very easy to spin up the tires at will. I have a feeling it will not be easy to put down the power you have until you have some development time in the chassis.

My first impression of the GTM was. Wow Iv never driven a car like this. Second impression. Sheesh 630 hp sure is a lot in a 2500 lb car. But like anything. I'm sure ill get used to it. I'll have more feedback when I can drive it at speed.

I'm not saying you should not do the turbos. I'm just saying why not try out what you have so far. You already have some serious power.

if you need more power I think just adding nitrous oxide to your setup would be the easiest way to get you in the same ballpark as 6 lbs of boost. No plumbing or heat issues and you have a setup that works out of the box. I'm not sure if the m90 ecu supports control of the nitrous injection. I know my mast m120 does. Mast might swap with you.

You are only going to be able to put big hp down when you are running tall ish gears at high speed when you can generate some downforce ....the same time you would use nitrous. At least it makes logical sense.

Now I'm never one to discourage building ridiculous things. But it might be worth running your current setup as the test mule then work up to the 1000hp setup.

I look at it this way. We have a bunch of high hp GTMs that will hit the road this year. We have normally aspirated and turbo setups with varying degrees of power.

Hugo is building a similar setup with a built NA motor that he will add nitrous for the top speed runs.

Why not wait and see what the hot setup is and copy that?

It's no fun to have a 1000hp smoke machine. I'm sure there is some point where adding hp to a stock GTM has diminishing returns. At least from what I have seen posted on the forums, collectively we don't know how where the point is.

I'm the first to build things just because I want it that way, so please ignore everything I just said if you have your heart want turbos. :) I just thought I would give my perspective.

You make some good points John,
I really just created this thread to gather info on turbo's. I do plan on running the car with this setup and nitrous to see how stable it is at high speed 175+.

I thought that this would become a High Horsepower bashing thread. You know the "it cant put it down so why spend the money" I see that a lot on here. But the thing is I am not going to try to put it down on the street. Its similar to someone buying there first bike and someone else tells them to get a 600 b/c you cant handle anything more than that. But to me the thing is the machine is only going to go as fast as you want it to. The driver is in control of the throttle! The Texas mile is full of 1500hp Ford GT's the can find a way to put it down without traction control. Point is 700 or 1200hp there is a point where you can eventually press the skinny petal to the floor and the car is just going to keep accelerating.

The TT thing has just been rolling around in my mind and I needed some answers. Hopefully we will be able to get our cars to act right at high speed. Really sometimes I just dont understand it. I see pickup trucks at the mile with 1100hp running over 200mph and the things look like there going straight as an arrow and there bone stock body wise. Hopefully we will get everything worked out with all the high HP builds going on and more importantly the great people building them.

Right now I have to you and JCHracer (joel) props for the roll cage work. Shane is currently working on my cage right now. I copied many of the things you guys have done already but changed some things around a little here and there. My cousin welds cages on armored vehicles. First day he seen my GTM he said "you might survive a crash" But really he is known for massively over doing things. With the work you guys started I feel much safer. One day I know I will let my son drive it and not worry so much. Thanks

Go over to Nelson Racing engines site and there is a video in there of a GTM with some insanely high horsepower engine and they simply couldn't use it.
He was afraid of blowing the porsche transaxle and also as said above it was just a tire burner with any sort of boost.
Now there are those times when almost everyone wants to put on a smoke show but better to have at least some control and not have a revolving door at the tire shop! :D
