View Full Version : Clutch Cable Routing?

On the Mk IV complete kit, does the clutch cable route under or over the ¾ inch square tube?

I am trying to mock up my brake lines, and since I converted to power brakes (Whitby Kit), it is more practical to run my lines coming out of the master cylinder (MC) down to the ¾ inch square tube. If the clutch cable routes over the square tube this will not work.

Scott,

I did the basic kit with the Ford pedal box, but here is how I routed mine. I'm not sure if the complete kit is different.

Hope this helps!

Hi Chris, the complete kit for mk4 actually has the clutch on the left side of the foot box. I cannot answer the question as I used the standard brake.

Chris nice pictures.

The Mk IV complete kit has the clutch cable coming out of the left side of the foot box. So the clutch cable is going to have to be routed either under or over top of the 3/4 inch square tube. It seems to be more natural for it to go under the square tube. Going over could have it sitting on the steering column.

Where did you get connectors on top of the MC for the SS braided brake fluid lines? I like the way they look. The Whitby kit comes with plastic connectors to attach rubber hose to the fill bottles.

Hey Scott,

I have a MkIII but I installed a Forte/Welwood pedal set on mine that runs out of the left side of the foot box like on an MkIV (long story). Anyway, I ran the cable both ways and found a definite bind when I tried to route it over the 3/4 in tube. It wasn't exactly a bind but an extra curve that caused it to feel tighter and I didn't like the way it looked. So it's going under the 3/4 tube and seems to naturally flow under the tube and around the left motor mount. I also don't like the bracket so I removed it and I'm going to drill the bracket bushing on the cable to move it (very carefully). I will then redo the bracket to mount directly to the flat plate on the motor mount. I think it will look like it is designed to be there. That bracket just doesn't look good in my opinion. See you later, WEK.

Thanks WEK for the help and confirming my instincts the cable naturally seemed like it would have to go under the 3/4 inch square tube.

I will also keep your advice about the cable bracket in mind. I was also bothered by that.
