My body and paint guy has concerns that riveting the spoiler to the body may cause the paint to squish out around the rivet and the paint might crack around the rivet. Has anyone has issues like this? Will a longer aluminum rivet ease the pressure? Other suggestions?
Thanks,
Bob

I haven't dealt with that part yet. I was thinking of drilling the holes in the spoiler after bonding the spoiler to the body but before paint. After paint I was then going to insert and glue the rivet heads without crimping them. This way I have the strength of the bonding and the look of the rivets.
I still need to consider other options though...

We used allen head bolts and nuts instead of rivets.

Agreed SS buttonhead screws w/ nylock nuts let you tighten to just the right amount of tension.

Okay, my body and paint man will be happy. I like the look of the rivets but the job he is doing on my car makes it too nice to risk messing it up with the rivets. Thanks again.

I painted over the rivets.

I used ss button head allens 6-32 machine screws. I just drilled and tapped the body and have had no problems.

Dont bolt it to the body, Bolt it to the frame. I used the hood pin brackets bolted to the frame, riveted to the spoiler.(ignore the spring-Bad Idea) This way when you peel it off on a curb you won't ruin the bottom of the body,

I also put a 3/4 Brace across the supports, I welded a square nut into the 3/4 stock and threaded the bolt through the side supports.

I take it you are talking about the rear spoiler, so I used rivets but also used some silicone adhesive and had no problem.16409, 16410
