View Full Version : Okay, so my mirror fell off.....
So, I'm driving home from class last week and my windshield mirror fell off. It was glued on back in 2002 and after 11-yrs, just decided to fall off. The next day I glued it back on, even followed the directions, used the primer, waited, applied the glue, clamped for a minute, waited more than the recommended time and put the mirror on. We headed out for a drive two days ago and on the way home....the mirror fell off again.
I guess this is just a long winded way of asking if anyone has any good ideas, products etc. for reattaching a mirror to the inside of a windshield?
Thanks,

I have used the Loctite kit with great results . I always made sure that the old glue residue was off glass(razor blade) and cleaned with Achol and let dry throughly.

Why not use DWC (dark water customs) mirror bracket for the windshield. It's an easy 2minute install, no drilling or anything.
I love mine .... I used to run w/o a rear view mirror (or side mirrors) until I got caught accelerating to 120 in a 40 (with a cop right behind me, lol .. he promised not to give me a ticket if i put on at least 1 mirror, so I opted to comply :D )

Ray, I would say that the mirror was just an option, but I know how you retired CHP officers think, so re-attaching it is necessary. I have used the stuff from Locktite successfuly in the past.

That's a good idea, and I've already looked at that option. But it would interfere with the top that I bought from Doug.

Ensure glass is super-clean. Razer blade old glue off, clean with brake cleaner, acetone, mineral spirits, laquer thinner, etc. You want the glass squeaky clean.
Take the mirror button and razer blade all glue off, then use some 120 grit paper or a wire wheel and abrade/roughen the surface slightly. Then clean the mirror button with the same stuff you cleaned the glass with.
Finally, follow the directions and glue the button back on, BUT, don't stick the mirror on after 15 minutes. Let it dry/cure overnight, and THEN install your mirror. You should be fine for another 10 years now. ;)
