UPDATED 5/24/16 - Here's something for those of you doing your own bodywork. I don't think you'll be able to do this with the current plastic hood scoop offered by FFR, but if you have (or can locate) one of the older fiberglass versions, this is a worthwhile mod if you're going for a more authentic shape for your scoop.

Original post follows.....

I'm in the early stages of this one, but I can already tell that I like the change. I sliced a couple of tapered sections out of my FFR rivet-on hood scoop and then reshaped the top of the scoop by using a couple of pieces of scrap aluminum and clecos to hold everything in place. Just need to clean-off some of the gel coat around the patch area and 'glass everything back together, but I think the change in profile is worth it.

Thanks to CompetitionCobra for the idea and "how to."

Before - note how flat and almost ramp-like the scoop looks in this shot:

During - shows the pie-shaped section closed by pulling down the top and affixing it to the side using clecos with a strip of aluminum as a backing:

After - the scoop now matches the contour of the hood like the original cars:

Chris, forgive me, but what is the change? lowering the profile?

David - There is about 1/2" taken out of the sides near the top of the scoop, so it subtly arches the top of the scoop and eliminates the "ramp" look. Once it's done, I'll get another pic taken from the same angle of the "before" shot so that there is a side-to-side comparison.

Chris, a subtle change but looks good. It's the small details that makes a car stand out.

Chris-

It took me a couple of back and forth looks to notice the difference, but now that I see it, it really is a big difference! Very subtle, but a very nice improvement. Well done!

Steve

Thanks, guys. Here are a couple more pics - one showing the inside of the scoop with the cut and the tabs that are holding it together, and the other showing a better view of the contour of the scoop via a light reflection that follows the new curvature.

Well done Chris! I assume once it's glassed you can remove the tabs?

Today's TTT for an old how-to is a bodywork tip. I can't take credit, though, as this was just my version of Competition Cobra's modification to the hood scoop profile.

To answer David's question - that has been left unanswered for over three years - yes, the tabs came out once the gap was glassed in and then the remaining holes were filled in using HSRF.

That is subtle and really sharp. Nice work.

I did this mod and it is a great one. Thanks again Chris (and competition cobra), you know what they say about copying. I did go further back with my cut as I got a sharp bend where I first stopped.
