I seem to remember Tony telling me on my tour of FFR, that there is metal bonded in the fiberglass where the body is bolted or riveted to the firewall. If this is true, how thick is it? Can it be threaded for a 10-32 screw? Could you please answer ASAP. Thanks, T.W.

Hi T.W. - while we don't use any aluminum panels bonded into the firewall attachment area, we do use it for hinge attachment points and some other similar items (such as gas strut mount points on a hood or hatch). When we do use it on those areas, it's typically 1/8" thick aluminum.

The thickness and curvature around the firewall opening gives it a lot of strength, so you shouldn't have to worry much about that area when you're fastening things together.

Take care,

Jason @ FFR

I used nutserts (smaller than what is supplied by FFR) in the fiberglass to bolt the cowl to the firewall. I've had the body on and off a few times and they are holding up well. I'm using 10-32 screws so the nutserts are small enough to be positions on the fiberglass flange and not be too close to the edge of the fiberglass.

10/4 Arrowhead. I used the 10/32 nutserts in the pass side curve due to the A/C. I used 10/32 screws and nuts on the rest. Thanks.

Hopefully you developed a way to hold the nuts there, there's no way I could reach my hand in there to hold all the little nuts while they get screwed on. I havea hard enough time with the hardtop hardware!
