hi everyone just wanted to share some of the options ive used in the past on my subarus i know someone in a thread asked about services that would be able to port and polish turbos for them so thought id shed some light on the subject:

in the past ive used grimmspeed and blouch performance turbo both of which do great work and excellent customer service, forced performance also does turbo porting. these are the three main ones im aware of in the subaru community but im sure there are a large variety of companies out there.

grimmspeed offers a porting and polishing as well as ceramic coating for almost everything
-tgv deletes
-exhaust manifolds
-intake manifolds
-full turbo back exhaust
-up pipe
-throttle body
-turbo

ive only used the turbo porting and polishing and ceramic coating from blouch but the quality at both places was superb im sure if you ask them they would probably do more than just a turbo

for the 818 i decided to use a smaller business called Proport, its a small company in Clarksville, TN who specializes in porting and polishing as well as ceramic coating for subarus and other imports. i bought a vf43 from the owner off of NASIOC and it was ported and polished as well as ceramic coated by him after seeing the work on the turbo i sent off my intake manifold and tgvs to him to do some custom work for me (since i was too lazy to port everything myself) just got em back today so id thought id share with everyone he also sent me a few smaller stickers with my race team name for free:

I had him stencil on my race team name as well turned out pretty good matches everything in my engine bay well im having everything in black and red on the engine

That should allow quite a bit of flow. Looks good too.

It looks like he only went partway into the intake manifold. I don't know what tools GS uses, but they're able to port the entire runner.

that looks like wrinkle powder coat... ceramic is usually smooth...

It's most likely coated... the manifold has a rough texture that shows through. My coated manifold looks the same.

I think you're right. It appears to be a wrinkle powder. Even though the manifold has a light texture from there is definitely a texture from the coating which would indicate powder coating as Ceramic are not textured. There are some that may have some slight sand like specs, but it wouldn't be confused with a texture. There is a remote chance it's a high temp powder which has a bit of texture as well, but it offers NO thermal properties, it's basically a powdered BBQ paint.

But you are comparing smooth steel with a cast aluminum manifold. I would like to see wrinkle vs coated on the same manifold. Here is a picture of my thermal coated manifold for comparison.

LOL yup, so the bling-bling doesn't blind me. The work bench has been cleaned since this picture was snapped. Actually mounted the vise and really tidied up. Very happy with how the 818s new home is (slowly) turning out.

I wasn't really comparing anything. I was showing you what wrinkle powder on a cast alum part looks like as well as smooth ceramic on an equally smooth part. Smooth ceramic will obviously take on what ever texture it is put over such as below.

I can't find any over aluminum at the moment but these are cast iron parts of varying texture with a smooth Ceramic applied....
