I had posted on the FFCars forum asking for coolant recommendations but wanted to check this side of the internet also. Appeared that Preston Dex-Cool Extended Life was recommended there however that was a warning that it will coagulate when exposed to oxygen and really cause problems. Using the FFR aluminum radiator so that is my main concern.

I know Motorcraft has its own brand but its not available anywhere around here except at Ford dealership so I expect it is over $20 a gallon. Would certainly prefer to use an aftermarket brand that is available at any auto parts store.

Would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,

Ron

I used plain old Peak pre-mix from the local parts store in my Mk3. No issues that I know of.

I use whatever is on sale at the time of purchase. If you take care to stay on top of change intervals you are not going to have an issue with coolant. I think Prestone was on sale the last time I flushed and refilled a cooling system.

Have you guys ever considered Evan's waterless coolant? It's fairly expensive but can be in for the life of the car. Plus, it isn't nearly as corrosive on the components. Here's a great video from Jay Leno's Grage on the product. Thoughts?

Yes, I just picked up 9 jugs of Evan's.

There was a thread on Evans coolant within the last several weeks, either here or over at FFCars. Downside may be prone to leakage at gasketed joints/threads due to the surfactant (finds the tiniest leak paths) used. May want to search for it. I have no experience with it.
