View Full Version : Vote for your favorite FFR name...

Pick from the list that KC_Shane has made. Once we have it narrowed down, we can vote for the top 5 or so to send to Dave. I'll update the list as people respond. I think that by now, everyone knows that you can't use a name like "F150", for obvious reasons. Try to keep it down to one name. If the name that you like is not listed, I'll add it. If it's already listed, let me know which name you vote for, and I'll update the number of votes.
**UPDATE** I am no longer keeping track of the number of votes. This thread will just get the list of top 20 names. Not a huge conversation about every name that everyone has named. If you have a name you like that's not in the list, submit it. If you have submitted several names, try to pick one. Once we get about 20 names or so, I'll start a poll and let people vote.

Are you saying that voting for a name that is already used or trademarked or both voids the vote, i.e. if I vote for "F150" then the vote doesn't count? If so, perhaps we should start with a spread sheet that does not show useless names?

Can we make this a poll?
My vote is Apex.

I was thinking we could at least narrow down the names first. A lot of people have submitted tons of names. I think people could just list their favorite, and that would narrow it down pretty quick.
As the list grows, I'll keep track of the number of votes. Once we have a decent list, We'll do a pole.
Even though I came up with Apex, I won't include myself as a vote.
Magnus, Problem is that would still leave hundreds of names. If people just pick a favorite, it'll narrow it down quicker.

I like Imprezive (or Imprezzive if you prefer) as it nicely ties the new car to the donor. Yes it's my contribution to the list so I may be somewhat biased, but I don't see anything wrong with using a play on one of their existing model names to give Subaru some slight link to the new car that, after all, will be using their running gear (and who knows what else) to complete.
And another thing to think about is using a combo of submitted names..like Imprezzive FRX

Might not be an issue if something is appended (suffix).
For example: Apex SF for Street Fighter.

Product names cross all the time. For now, I would just worry about leaving production cars off the list. Beyond that, I'm sure Dave already has a good idea of what is OK and not, or his lawyer does.
Mine:
Apex (prefer no additions, but no worries)
Firefly (as in zippy, darty and attention getting)
Serenity (driving in the zone, one with the car)

I like the idea of putting FF or FFR before the name.
Maybe:
FFR Apex
FF Apex
My favorite is the FF Aurora, or FFR Aurora
kind of sounds like a navy ship "ss Aurora".
Hell, this was the last aurora concept. Maybe it would work better on.....not a wagon?

Aurora was the name of an Oldsmobile car. GM still owns alot of its discontinued names. I don't think FFR would want to use Aurora given this.

But it IS a 4 cylinder and, if left stock, DOES have peaky power. ;) (Just keep the revs up )
Not quite sure what apex, as related to the 'Racing line', has to do with power delivery though.
Wikipedia: "The apex, or clipping point, is often used in motorsport..... The apex is often, but not always, the geometric center of the turn. Hitting the apex allows the vehicle to take the straightest line and maintain the highest speed through that specific corner. It is also the tightest part of a corner."
Definition of Apex is: the tip, point, or vertex; summit.
The 'Racing line' definition of apex is a specialized definition for motorsports. The general public doesn't think of apex in driving terms like we do.
And I agree there is nothing wrong with peaky engine output as long as the transmission is geared to match, but the general public and even a lot of V8 enthusiasts do buy into the negative connotation of peaky engine performance.
I guess these statements aren't as important as usual though, as the general public doesn't build there own cars :)
P.S. I am not saying I don't like Apex, just that I prefer Forge

I'd like to see this thread limited to voting on names. Otherwise it'll turn into a 400 page discussion. Honestly, debating a name isn't really important. It's going to be what the majority like, and that'll reflect in the votes.
I'm sure once more people get online tonight, we'll get more suggestions.

Of the 5 choices, I'll vote for Apex. Forge is ok but I don't think the majority of the people are understanding the blacksmith aspect. Good idea though.
I like the ring of FRX but if it will be called the FFR FFX then it will sound funny.

Rotr8, F5R Spyder works!, pretty much the same as FFR, just depends on the "Five" part.
Steve91T, yeah go for it.
the word "Spyder" for cars has a long history inspired by some of the greatest car designers for auto companies rich in history, like Porsche, Ferrari and Maserati just to name a few.
Jeff, Spyder in the true sense is really not a name of a car, but more of a type of car. Plus FFR dropped that car, so I don't see why they can't use it on another design.

The way I think of it is, from the way FFR is talking about the design, that they are looking for a open roadster with a optional soft top, hard top or targa top. So would say from that, the base body is a "Spyder"
So really any good name that "rings a bell" but doesn't sound like a name that the simpsons tv show came up with.
Spyder S, GT Spyder, GTS Spyder, Apex Spyder etc. you get the idea.

Dave has stated in a few threads here that things like a hardtop option are definitely possible. Even the napkin drawing that was on the original FFR announcement page has been modified to show a hardtop version on the Grassroots body design page.
This is one of the reasons I've said from the beginning that it would be better to come up with the body design first, then name it. Someone suggested the car could be built with different body styles, buyer chooses the one they want. Dave said this could be a possibilty at some point.
Maybe we should name the car Chameleon.

There's gotta be a better way to do this....
The spreadsheet needs to be leveraged either to count votes or have the FFR staff pick finalists and start a poll on the forums since so many of the names obviously overlap with names that already have been used in one shape or form.
Before there's an open vote we need to eliminate a good number of these names first OR have a more streamlined way to vote, like giving each member 3 top names to vote on and tracking it in the spreadsheet.
Otherwise count my vote for NH7 (a name I submitted)
