Has FF mentioned making some parts in C/F as an option? I see lots people with mrkII, etc doing their own.
I love the stuff!

I just bought 10 yards of carbon to play around with. Can't wait for my 818S to come in so I can 3D scan it with the laser and model up some options for interior, aero, and miscellaneous other pieces. I plan on CNC milling the molds and doing it with resin infused vacuum bagging, so it will be perfect and I can have it naked without clearcoating it.
Just need the kit to show up so I can get started.

I like what you are saying! Any chance you would be open to selling some of those carbon bits in the future?? :)

If you don't mind me asking what resin do you use?
I've made a couple carbon fiber bits and the largest one, a motorcycle fairing/windscreen, yellowed bad enough in the sun it needed to be sanded down and clear coated.

I plan trying a crack at it, I have made some parts with good success before. my father builds fiberglass, carbon. and kevlar sail boat hulls, so I have a hook up

Make sure your resin is uv resistant otherwise you are asking for the resin to break down, yellow and weaken... otherwise clear coat it..

I would be very interested in some pieces... on the R, I noticed there were no door cards. I would like to at least get some flat CF panels to fill the space.

Right now, I'm planning on just making pieces for my own car. If I like them and someone else likes them (since I'll be posting it up on this forum) I wouldn't be opposed to making some extra for friends and family.
My main focus, right now, is the interior, since I want something that's closer to the Mclaren P1 or Lotus Elise interior than the current 818S dash. With out the actual car, I can work out most of the pieces and then finish the trimming and attachments when the actual car arrives.
As far as the resin and UV resistance, you are correct, that there is not a really good solution to UV and yellowing without a clearcoat. So for any exterior pieces, I was planning on Fibreglast 2000 series epoxy resin and a regular automotive clearcoat applied. For interior pieces, I was not planning on applying a clearcoat since the car will not be outside much, and hopefully have a hardtop of some sort. For the interior parts, I'm planning on having a dry layup so the carbon fiber texture comes through - just because I like the way it feels and looks.

if you're using resin infusion, you'll need to use a thin viscosity resin. there are resins made just for vacuum infusion.

That's correct. I'm using the Fibreglast 2000 series resin with a 2 hour cure time. It's a semi-local supplier (Ohio) and great service.

I second that!
Currently I'm using West System.

Yes, the R has a carbon dash, and think one or two other pieces, and the dash at least was going to be an option.

West systems resins are good ish, I love working with them, and really they work in pretty much all situations until you get into some pretty exotic requirements - but if you have those than you probably aren't building a kit car and likely have a 6, 7 or 8 figure budget for whatever it is your constructing (and probably a composites engineer on call).. ;)
