View Full Version : Has anyone deviated from the FFR method of intake with the Spectre MAF adapter?

Im not sure I want to run the 4 inch MAF tube they have with the plastic reducer. The ford intake has a smooth 3.5 inch airflow patch around the MAF sensor that is 3.5 inch all the way to the throttle body(with some bellows in there as well). Im thinking of doing a homebrew setup by machining the MAF boss and welding it to 3.5 inch tubing which should get me similiar flow to the factory setup. Ebay has some reasonable deals on both straight and curved section of 3.5" alum tubing used for intakes. In addition, I should be able to route the intake to the drivers wheel well and get much cooler air than right behind the radiator.
I did a search last night on cold air intakes for 2011+ mustangs and all/most all of them appear to have the MAF located in what appears to be a smooth section of tube with no necking up or down from what I can see.
I knnow that Wayne was working on an intake a while ago. Wayne, anything come of that?
Anybody do something different here?

I ran 3.5" tubing all the way to the area behind the brake duct opening, and I put the MAF in the straightest, least turbulent area. I also found a flat oval filter with 50% more flow than what came with the kit.

Send Richard Oben at North Race Cars a message. They have done it on a Coyote exactly like you describe. I talked to him about it at Laguna Seca in August.

You will also need the nipple in the 3.5" tube for the breather line from the drivers side valve cover. You can get one from JLT Performance. Not on their website but you can call to get one. It fits the OEM push on connector.

Thanks guys, I'll check with Richard. He's a good friend of mine. Joe, cool... can you post a link for the filter?

I need to call Richard as well to order my Champ Coyote oil pan. Ordering the engine this week, very excited! Can't wait for that truck to show...

Try this. Fits well in the wheel well right behind the brake duct opening.

Any chance of convincing you to make an extra setup? I really don't want to leave the air filter under the hood / behind the radiator either. I'm only a couple hours away from you!
