WOW! This is just down fight gorgeous.
Does the Spyder qualify for POM? If not, I really don't see why it doesn't, it is a Factory Five model is it not?

Always loved the spyder , don't know why it never was popular enough to keep it as a kit.

I appreciate the feedback! I spent five years getting it to the point to pass off to Whitby Motorcars in Greensboro, NC. As CEO of this build I had to rely on various consultants. My wife picked the color and Whitby's did the rest. Engine Factory supplied the crate engine. I asked for the engine block to be painted black with all Edelbrock chrome on top. Eventually the cap to the Master Cylinder will be replaced with a chrome cap.

I figured one burnt leg/ankle on my wife and the experience would be over...attaches to base of each seat rail and tucks in between the seat and cockpit wall. Can be detached and used as extra seat cushion for long rides and emergency heat shield. Made out of heat insulation padding (similar to stuff used on ironing boards but thicker) layered between Nomex. Had a local tailoring shop do the stitching for me. Plan to put my Spyder logo on each mat at some point.

Gas tank skirt- late addition but completes the rear end look (hides visible gas tank top seam not concealed by tank shield & straps).
Dash endcaps - I had this planned from the get-go.
Reverse 3pt-roll bars- Jeff Collins (Whitby) proposed pointing roll bars inward. The standard config would have the 3rd leg cutting through the bulbous fender-flat trunk intersection. He didn't think it would look good. I did a crude computer rendering of it to convince myself that reverse roll bars would work. I finally agreed that the reverse look would work. Glad I listened to him.

Your build is meticulous! You truly thought of everything. Dash is beautiful. Great thinking on the pads as well. Many passengers will thank you (or should) for your thoughtfulness!
I agree on the roll bars; it would have been a shame to cut into the fenders. They look too nice to be interrupted by the roll bar.
Very impressive build. I know how proud you must be! Congratulations!

Steve

Beautiful. I wonder if we can request The Factory to bring the Spyder back?

How can you tell that a guy loves and takes great care of his car?
When you look at a pic of the tires and could eat off of them! :D
Beautiful build!

I think someone needs to give Mr. Smith a nudge and a subtle suggestion about a Spyder comeback......
The blue Spyder looks gorgeous. What blue did you use?

I'm pretty sure it is waiting in the wings... Dave's quote was it never really had a champion and wasn't really "finished" enough. He also said he would NEVER do another model w/o an available top... it was a sales killer... I think you will find that the 818 demand turned Dave's original long term plans on its head and that the Spyder was in there somewhere...

Thanks for all the great feedback. The color is Corvette Electron Blue. Regarding the issue pertaining to a top or lack of a top, it was never really an issue for me. I plan to have a rapidly deployable cover for rain emergencies made, but for the most part consider this a fair-weather car. I have drain holes at the front-end of each foot box. Also, I have a great weather app on my iPhone!
