FFR shows just using filler in the upper hose and the standard overflow setup(If I remember correctly).

Has anyone called Ford support to see if we actually need an expansion tank? If so, how large it needs to be?

I saw a car with the factory unit which is an option, but would prefer something smaller and aluminum. I found a few options at summit that might work and have a few ports that could be used with the Coyotes fittings as stock. However this would require running a setup with 2 radiator caps which im not super fond of.

Another option I was thinking about, is fabricating an expansion tank that would bolt directly to the drivers side of the motor and act as the de-gas and expansion tank.

I really want to keep the tubing and clutter down in the engine compartment the best I can.

I think if you could figure a way to do an engine mounted expansion tank it would be a cool throw back to the originals.

Hey Scott! Yeah... that would be cool. Im definitely going to look at that as an option.

David, if you like the old school style, CobraRestorers used to have a DIY expansion tank where they sold the tank itself and then different flanges that you could assemble yourself, might be an option for the tank itself.

I did mine exactly as this image indicates. I have had zero problems filling the system and no problems running and idling in hot weather. Hose number 3 has a check valve in it and the system sucked in lots of air without the check valve.

Thanks Joe, apprecaite that.

Im going to try and replicate the flow with a smaller alum tank. Just not sure how small I can go. I may call ford on it to see what they have to say on it.
