I did some searching and could not get a real good answer to this - see pictures - -

Sorry for the fuzziness on the first one, the camera does not do macro too well.

See the gap on the right, between the mounting ear and the heim joint / rod end bearing? That does not look right.

In the Coupe manual, page 112, it says something about start with 3 shims and no shims - I do not understand it.

But the pictures show what I got after following the steps.

Do I have the correct shims? Mine look like thin black washers. Do I just stuff washers in there to fill the gap?

Pictures of your solution would be great.

Thanks,
wayne

I believe you will add shims as you align your rear. There is a section in the manual about alignment.

Just did this two days ago w/ Bill3422s car. We decided to do a permanent washer setup on the front LCA mount figuring it would be harder to get to later. We put no washers in the rear mount so the rodend can just slide along the bolt as adjustements are made during the alighnment. He has the Forte adjusters so we could button up the front mount. If you don't have the Forte adjusters, I'd put three or four in front and fill the rear as well as you can but leave the inevitable slop for now by NOT tightening the bolt fully. that way you won't bend the mounts ears and it will be easier to get the bolt/washers in and out during alignment.

CraigS -
I found some great info on the other forum - and it pretty much agrees with yours. I will try to work on it this weekend, document it carefully and post the info in here with a lot of good key words for SEO so others can find it. This seems to be a long-standing issue.

My manual has some instructions for this - however, it does not come to a "conclusion" - there isn't anything on how to finalize the initial settings, and the gaps between the shims and the mounting ears is rather BIG - way too much for a bolt to squish into place.

More later.
