Anyone had custom covers made for their aluminum racing seats? I'm looking to replace my Street Performers and I'm leaning toward the Intermediate Roadrace (series 47) seats from Kirkey. I want a bit more cushion, seat heaters installed, and custom embroidery on the headrest, and the people at Kirkey can't/won't do any of that.

Hi Bill,

I'm planning to do the same with my 47 series Kirkey seats, using a local firm. The firm has the seats but hasn't given me a quote yet. As I'm a ways from needing them, I haven't pushed the issue.

I purchased heaters from CobraHeat (not yet installed in seats) [http://www.cobraheat.com/Automotive-Seat-Heaters_c_18.html]. I am still looking for the best padding material. These 2 choices are the best I've found so far, but I would appreciate yours or others' suggestions: [https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/group.asp?GroupID=BACKPAD] and [http://www.hammacher.com/Product/81485?promo=search]

I called a local upholstery shop and he quoted me a ballpark of $400 per seat. I was considering reusing the seat heaters I currently have in my seats (they also came from CobraHeat).

Bill,

Just got quote from a local shop (admittedly, very high end shop) for seat covers (same pattern as stock Kirkey) - 4x your quote! Sticking with Kirkey covers for now. Let me know how you make out with yours (pictures?); what style, material? Where did you locate the heater pad (under/over foam padding)? Thanks, Bob

Went to a small family upholstery shop yesterday with my Kirkey low-back seats and we decided on a plan. He's going to do them in really nice leather (black) with piping and stitching to match the original seats as much as possible. The leather will cover the entire seat, including the sides and backs. They'll be padded to my fit, including lumbar, and include seat heaters. Ballpark right now is $800 per seat complete. Just need to decide on whether I want black or creme piping.

For padding in the Kirkey seat bottom I tried many and found the best is a canoe seat pad from REI. It's a stiff foam that does not have to be thick to give relief to the butt soreness.
