Hi all! I am new to this forum but wanted to ask a question. I want to get my brother a bday present and was thinking a bunch of car care products would be good - he has a Cobra. Any recommendations of brands and types of products? Thanks a million!

I like using Mothers, they make really high-quality polish & wax products with ok prices.

This subject can (will) quickly turn into quite a debate. The higher end products from your local parts or big box stores are no doubt good products. Brands like Mothers (mentioned), Meguiars, etc. Two of the really high end brands often mentioned in this kind of discussion are Zaino and Adams, only available on-line. My Cobra has only seen Zaino products, and I'm a believer. But not cheap and not everyone will agree.

Yup, what edwardb said is 100% correct, people use many different brands/types and most have good results. Myself and my friends have used most brands from meguiars and mothers to zaino and groits garage, they all work well, and the differences are minor in my opinoin. Weve done some side by side tests on 2 different cars between the expensive zaino, and cheaper more available meguiars products, and no one could tell which car had which product on it.

Now i can tell you from experience that the Zaino products are easier to use, easier to pull off. The mothers/meguiars stuff takes a little more "elbow grease" to pull off.

I usually use http://www.autogeek.net to purchase my products, huge selection, helpfull people and decent prices.

I have a lot of experience with Mothers Wax, and wholeheartedly recommend any of their products. However, you can't go wrong with Mothers, Meguiars, or any of the high-end brands mentioned above - they all make quality products. It used to be that Mothers and Meguiars were the only 2 brands that had a full time chemist on staff. I know Mothers still does (he's on their TV commercials), but since Meguiars sold to 3M about 2-3 years ago, I don't know what they do today. WARNING: whatever you do, don't use Armor All, Turtle Wax, Blue Coral etc.; they will ruin a custom paint job. "Our products are for selling, not for using." is what Turtle Wax used to tell their sales reps - that speaks volumes.

Thanks, guys! Seems like I can't mess this up too bad if I stick to one of the brands you recommended. Although I'm selfishly starting to think Zaino is the way to go since it'll be less work for me to pull off when I try to help him (if he'll even let me!) Is it a drawback you can only get it online? I'm also having trouble comparing prices and picking products...Zaino has a couple of packages for $80 - $125 with a variety of things to try vs. Mothers I'd have to buy them all individually. Maybe I should just get him a gift certificate to a detailing place...? I don't see him trusting other people with his baby though!

I bought the Zaino Total Protection Show Car Kit (ZKIT-1) and it had everything I needed. Just a hint -- no detailing place is going to touch my Cobra. Just not going to happen.

I am a Griot's product user and very satisfied. The online ordering makes resupplying easy. Plus they have bundled kits to get one started. Their web site has lots of "how to" videos and helpful hints.

Zaino (at least the polish/wax) is available at local parts stores and Wal-mart. Good products.
Griots whole line is now in Advance Auto parts. My local one has a big display. Never tried them, but the whole Griots thing is aimed at the high end crowd. Might make a really nice gift.
Mothers, good products.
