Okay, it's a small triumph, but here's a video of my driver's door with its working hinges and latch. Click on the pic and it should run.

Great work Chris! How much body work did it take to get the door and body edges lined up and on the same level?

Hey Chris,

That's a sweet sound. BTW, I couldn't tell if you used the latch spacer that comes in the kit with the MkIIIs. Did you use it? It's a CNCed peice that has the same cutouts as the back of the working part of the door latch assembly (not the chrome part)? It is about a 1/4 inch thick. Also, did you do the latch mod?

Thanks,

WEK.

Ron - I spent about four hours on the driver's side and maybe three on the passenger side. Not that the passenger side was really any better (in fact, it's probably going to need a bit more filler to make perfect), but like anything, the second one always seems to go faster, smoother, and turns out better. The best thing I did was to leave them over night and come back to it for just a bit more fiddling.

WEK - Yes, I used the spacers. I was going to try and eliminate them by doing a bit more adjusting (and opening of the hole so that the catch pin can recess into the door a bit more), but I was just turned onto the latch lever mod by Jeff Kleiner, so I think that the spacer will give me the additional room on the back side of the latch (that part that is against the door) for the head of the carriage bolt. Going to do that mod and slightly bevel the hole in the catch pin today just to finish this up before moving onto the next steps of opening up the gaps a bit more, evening the gaps out, and filling the doors with some very low expansion foam. The only remaining thing will be to drill the top of the door for the side curtain bezels.
