I need to provide my insurance company with the chassis number. Where exactly will I find it? Left hand side, by my knee is what I've been told. I couldn't find it at all so I think I need a bit more direction or a photo or two.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Joe. That's where I was looking. Good to know I'm not stupid, just blind.

I'll have to go out again later and have another look with a torch.

For those that are wondering why Martin would use a "torch"....torch = flashlight.

I never considered that...

When talking with Joe I had to clarify "by the left knee" if you are in the drivers seat. Is that RHD or LHD. I just assumed he meant LHD but did ask just to be sure.

Ian Hunter told me to go through the manual and change everything from "driver" to "passenger" and "left" to "right" and vice versa before I start building.

Probably a good idea.

Martin, looking from the back of the chassis to the front, the frame number is located on the left (UK passenger) side, on the big square tube located just above where your knees would be if you are sitting in the car. It faces the passenger, located on the verticle surface. There should be a spot 3-5 cm from the left edge that doesn't have any powder coating on it. The frame number should be stamped into the bare metal.

HTH,

Just a thought Martin, but was the steering bearing mount removed from the standard location as part of the RHD conversion? Was that section of the 2x2 hit with a grinder perhaps and there went your chassis #?

Found it. Right where everyone said it was. I was feeling around with my fingers because it was dark last night. Had a look this morning and there it was steering straight back at me. Only very lightly engraved, but very readable.

Welcome home FFR 7738.

Martin...you also might look at the block off plate on the front of the 4" chassis tubes. One side will have the number stamped also...at least on my older Mk II chassis. Regards, Bill in Phoenix.
