Apparently so can Factory Five! Albeit at a different price point. Anyone remember this issue? Found it in my oval office.

Wait, how old is that issue?

The resemblence is amazing, though I like the 818 better. If I wanted a car like that I'd get a brz or miata. Still might get a miata for a dd.

We ran against a BRZ/ FR-S at the 25 hour race. It it was in the way and we ran circles around it. Oh and we where driving a stock '96 Saturn. I really like the car and thought about getting one for a DD, after the race I changed my mind.

A 96 Saturn SC2 was my first new car. Went through the NH White Mountains with it and as far as I was concerned; it could have been the Alps with a Porsche.

A car is only as good as its driver.

A pre-2000, non-electronic aids car is only as good as its driver.

Fixed that for you ;)

holy hell well looks like im not buying one haha thats a shame too i drove a BRZ and i was very impressed with the handling just hugged corners better in every way than the wrxs ive owned all above 300 whp/tq but i wasnt impressed with the power at all throw on a turbo and lose a little more weight it would be a blast but at that price range forget it thats part of the reason i went with an 818 S so i can drive it when not racing and still retain my subaru roots

The BRZ is plenty light, it just needs a stiffer suspension. And at an anticipated $35-40k it needs to have more than 250 hp. More like 250 HP at the wheels.

And yes, a car with that low of a COG will hug the corners more than a WRX. A wrx is just fun because it's so dang versitile but it's like an all season tire. Good in all conditions but not great in any compared to some of the other cars out there.

How old is that mag? Trying to figure out if 818 is a clone of the baby-Boxter, or the other way 'round.

I had been thinking for a long time that if the 818 ends up with the rep we all expect among the car-guy cognescenti, a super fast, super fun, exotic car whose unattainability is due to the skill required to build it, not the $$$ required to buy it, that its basic look, regardless of HoF quotient, will end up with a certain cachet that will eventually find its way into mainstream performance oriented cars.

Just wondering if maybe that has already started to happen.

I just think that if Stuttgart is considering doing it, it validates Jim's design. That's all. Can't remember what issue it was and I threw it away yesterday. That was the only picture.

30 seconds on Google tells me it's May, 2010.

The likelihood that a Road & Track artist's conception will closely resemble a future production car is infinitesimally small yet is still larger than the likelihood Porsche will copy Factory Five's designs.

I'm curious why you think the relative performance of the two cars could have nothing to do with your being a better driver than the guys steering the Toyobaru.

I used to really want a Corvette and an NSX, then in my first track day I passed a bunch of both in my stock 2002 WRX. I guess those sports car icons suck after all. Who knew? ;)

The rendering looks more like a Boxster Spyder with Cayenne front grille slightly modified than anything else.

The Road and Track illustration is a bunch of Porsche design cues photoshopped onto the VW BlueSport show car, which was at one time rumored to be spawning a sub-Boxster derivative for Porsche. The wheels, hood cut line, doors, rear vents, rear deck cut line, rollover hoops, seat backs, windshield, windshield frame, and mirrors, both side and rearview, are directly off of the BlueSport. The door handles, front vents, lights (front and rear), and hood and rear deck shape are grafted on, but they are all added in such a way as to work on the BlueSport platform, which is undoubtedly what R&T suspected was planned.

Bland designs tend to look alike.
