Not saying that FF would do this but wouldn't it be great to get certain parts ahead of time (shipped ups) to be able to work on the build as pieces become available.
For example I would love to get the locking collar and back plate so I could get my transmission wrapped up, even if I had to pay the retail price of the parts now and the amount was deducted off my balance.
Fuel tank would be cool too to get the pump assembly and lines all squared away.
any other things you guys can think of that would be helpful?
Even getting the instruction manual as soon as the first kit is ready would be great.

I agree it would be nice. But don't hold your breath. They are even done with the car yet.

Not gonna happen.
The biggest thing FFR does is NOT ship kits in pieces or stages....this avoids "stage kits" sitting incomplete in garages and not running on the streets...this does nothing but hurt FFR (gives the company / and the "kit car name" a bad rep to see a lot of their kits incomplete and sitting in garages). Life gets in the way and you may have to change directions.. now you decide you can't take delivery of the rest of the kit and guys are waiting / back ordered for the parts that you have in your garage....nobody wins.
The only partial kits you will get or see are the ones that are delivered with backordered parts (might as well get your head wrapped around that now cause it will probably happen). For the Roadster I have seen "special" case-by-case arrangments made where the customer just didn't have room for the whole kit all at once...but I think I can count that on one hand...
There are probably 1000 other things that you could do to "get ahead" without needing a single part from FFR....I know...I am like number 5.

X2. Pre-delivery would be completely foreign to them!
Although it's better than it was 8-10 years ago backorders are still a way of life for FFR builders and have been since day 1. The question most frequently asked by those who have built before when a new guy takes delivery is "How long is your backorder list?" ;) It's OK though; you'll get to know the FedEx man on a first name basis and get to experience that Christmas morning feeling over and over when you come home and find another one of those white & blue boxes waiting by the door!

I would pay in full if necessary. In fact I was wondering when they are going to ask for an actual substantial deposit to get a more realistic preorder count.

well that's disconcerting... first time hearing about this... I figured FF would have their act together after 1000s of kits sold.

Actually they do. I'm sure most of us would have preferred to have every piece in the initial delivery and it has to add up for FFR with all of the FedEx shipments. But until FFr can manufacturer every piece it will continue to be the norm.
I've not heard of anyone not having at least a few back-ordered parts.

I wasn't intending to come across as negative towards them, nothing but respect here. But that's true... I guess when you are dealing with so many vendors you have hiccups. Either way the car will get built.
