View Full Version : Dash Wiring Help

So I must be missing something because the dash wiring is somewhat confusing to me. I have a non-donor build with the Ron Francis (RF) harness and Speedhut gauges.
- For the gauge lighting, do I connect the white gauge light feed that comes from the light switch to both the dimmer circuit white wire, AND the gauges power power feed white wire?
- I notice when I plug the RF connector to the light switch that there is a spare black wire on its own attached to the same wire bundle that goes to that switch. What is this for and where does it go?
- For the Hazard lights, I see one purple wire marked hazard in the dash wire set. The hazard switch does have six terminals on it tho, so I am sure I am missing something.
- Actually what I am missing is the wiring diagram that shows the details beyond the end on the harness, including all the switch connections. Does this exist? Have I misplaced it? Not in the RF book.
- Is the wiper wire just a power feed for the wiper circuit, and it's up to us to connect the remaining terminals to the switch?
- If I need power for a washer circuit, can I pull this from the same place?
I know I have not figured this all out yet, but this well help me get closer. I am sure I will have other questions too.
But thanks for the help thus far.

Hey Tim,
For gauge lighting, that output from the light switch should only feed the gauge lighting, since it's dimmed from the adjustment at the light switch. I believe the gauge power feed wire is brown, no?
That extra black wire should have a spade connector on the end of it to connect to the ground terminal on the body of the headlight switch. Not sure why it's done that way, but they made it separate from the rest of the plug terminals.
On the Hazards, you've got 6 terminals on the switch (2, 2, and 2). You'll need to connect the purple (or pink?) wire to each of the middle terminals, and you'll leave one of the other pairs untouched. For the other pair, you'll connect the dark green (LH) wire to one and the light blue (RH) wire to the other. The switch takes power applied to the two center terminals and sends it to each of the two terminals individually so that you can otherwise still operate the turn signals individually.
Here's a link to the full schematic (https://www.factoryfive.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Chassis-Harness-rev-L.pdf) - let me know if something doesn't show up.
For the wipers, the power should be all you need from the harness. The wiper instructions will detail the rest. Also, I'd say you're probably fine to pull power from the same wire for the washers, but just make sure that the combined draw from both doesn't exceed the 10A fuse rating.
Hope this helps!

I have the same setup. Did you get instructions with the Speed Hut gauges? You should have.
The gauges should have come with an inverter (C01-12L) that daisy chains to all the gauges. I think it is just for the pointers. The wiring diagram from Speed Hut says to connect one wire to the "+12v Dash lighting" which for RF harness is white and the other wire to a ground. All the gauges except the clock (go figure) have three wires (red, white, black), red = +12v keyed ignition, black = ground, white = +12v dash lighting.
My hazard switch is a DPST (Double Pole Single Throw) switch with four connections. I don't think the FFR kit included a Hazard Switch and the RF diagrams indicate the hazard switch is optional...indicated by dotted lines on the diagram. Any way the pink wire from RF harness goes to the two bottom connections. The top two connections tap into the dark green (left front turn sgl) and the light blue (right front turn sgl) that go to your turn signal switch.
Hope this helps.

Thx guys - this all helps very much.
Jason, for what it is worth, the switch schematic was not shown in my RF manual - I must have a misprint or something. And where you say:
That extra black wire should have a spade connector on the end of it to connect to the ground terminal on the body of the headlight switch. Not sure why it's done that way, but they made it separate from the rest of the plug terminals.
can I ask where the ground terminal is on the switch body? I am sure this is a silly question, but I have not figured it.
And thx again everyone.

Tim, there should be a tab on the left side. Note the black wire in the photo...that's the ground.

what is the difference between "+12v keyed ignition" and "+12v dash lighting"??? can I connect the red to the brown "gauge feed" and the white to the white "dash light"??
