Windshield wipers are probably required in most States. I know that they are not included with any of the FFR kits, but you can buy them from FFR as well as other outside vendors. You can look here (http://www.bipac.net/page.asp?content=tag_title_toolbox&g=SEMAGA) for registration information for all 50-States and maybe find equipment requirements as well.

You can also ask this question in one of the Regional Forums here (http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/forumdisplay.php?35-Eastern)

Good luck,

Ray

Well, looks like I forgot to check the pack list for the complete kits. Just found out the wipers are included with the Complete Kit's.

I crawled all over the 818 a few weeks back, it was stripped basically to the go kart. I studied every inch for about 45 mins. One of the things I noticed was a wiper and motor installed. Not sure if it will be an option or standard but I know it was on there and looked to be operational.

Eh? Wipers were included in my Mk3.1 Complete Kit.

Dunno if FFR plans a Basic and a Complete kit for the 818, but I would expect that if they do do the latter, wipers will be included.

I am fairly certain FFR has stated wipers WILL be available for the 818. I do not recall if they specified whether they would be standard equipment with the kit or an option.

Bit 'O Tangent: I like the idea of a complete kit, but I think it would double the kit price (more on that below). The 818 seems to be very appealing to a lot of folks because of the low cost. Doubling that cost just for new vs. used parts seems like it could break the deal for many folks. Also to consider is 818Donors. They are essentially offering a "complete" kit option (with an engine!!), so: 1)If FFR were to do a true complete kit, it could cut into the business of one of their partners; and 2)Why would someone opt to spend the same and get less (given the 818Donors parts are for all intents and purposes "as good as new" and comes with an engine/trans/etc.)?

Why do I think a complete kit would double the kit price? Because in order to meet the low target kit price, FFR is using a lot of items from the donor - more than for other kits from the sound of it. That means more parts that would need to be supplied in addition to the base kit when comparing an 818 complete kit to other FFR complete kits. A "complete" kit option adds $6k - $7k to other kits, so I'm guessing a complete kit option would add at least $8k, probably closer to $10k to the price of the 818.

Even though CAlifornia does require wiper in the Motor Vehicle Code, I would guess that less than 20% of the registered SPCNS vehicles have them (I do not have them on my roadster nor plan to put them on the 33). I know that in some states people have used the clamp-on manual type to get past inspections.

Fl. does not do an inspection of the finished vehicle. You can get it reg. here easily.

In Florida, although there isn't an inspection, you can get pulled over by Officer Friendly and get a ticket for driving a car without windshield wipers. No points on the ticket...but I think the fine back in 2007 was around $74.00.

It happened to me...got pulled over and the only reason was no wipers. I wasn't speeding, so it wasn't a gift in place of points.

I wound up making up my own bracket to mount a manual boat wiper too and kept it in the car. The law states you need to have one...it doesn't state that it can't be removable.

The 818 has a 'real' windshield - compared to a small, verticle, hard to fit wipers windshield that comes with a Roadster or Hot Rod.

The 818 comes from a Toyota MRS (best forum guess from last year), so the OEM Subaru wipers will likely fit. I would be suprised if FFR doesn't make the proper accomodations to the frame and body work to re-use the stock wipers. This would add a bit of developement cost and time, but only a few dollars in steel to the final kit. The donor has everything else.

The last time I was there... day after 818S photo shoot... Dave said that yes it is a MRS windshield and that they were doing wipers, I asked if external or hidden, he said it wasn't determined yet but he assured me that it would look great

remember these months between SEMA and the 1st shipment in June is the time to work out all this "stuff"... storage space was also in this same category

FFR does not offer wipers for the 33. Who does?

I was also told Wipers will be part of kit since a lot of states require them for registration

Because of coverage requirements, I think FFR purposely keeps wipers on the "downlow" for the HotRod and Roadster. Cars with low, wide and verticle windshields typically need 3 wipers from OEM manufactures to meet the laws in all 50 states. For example, the last of the British roadsters all had 3 short wipers, and the current Toyota FJ Cruiser does as well.

I don't see many of us installing 3 (fairly ugly) wipers on our Roadsters and Hot rods "just to be legal". And I don't see FFR openly promoting a non-conforming solution, even if a "mostly" conforming one is technically in the catalog.

Thankfully the 818 won't suffer from this issue as two regular wipers will do the job fine.
