Mounting 33 body with trunk aluminum installed

Hey Guys,

I am about to put my 33 body back on. I took it off to rewire with an ISIS system as well put a blower on the Flathead. I was able to take the body off with the trunk aluminum installed but it was a bit difficult. You guys ever put one on with all the trunk aluminum installed?

It seems like it should go on if it came off but I don't know. That lower floor would really make it hard to move around. It's been so long since mine has moved off the floor I just don't remember.

Maybe tech will have some tricks that will help.

Hey Geoff,

I decided to pull the trunk carpet on the lower floor and drill out the rivets and remove the lower floor. This should make the re-install much easier. I'll report back next weekend when we put it on.

The trunk area goes on first, then the front drops down over the car. It is the only way once the trunk aluminum is installed.

Hmm, will that work with the front suspension on? I've had my body on and off a couple of times and the front "legs" of the body need to be tucked under the control arms first when installing.

Or are you suggesting the "legs" be spread apart to clear the control arms as it's dropped down?

The rear has to go on first with the front section angled up. As you lower the front of the body down you pull back on the rear so that the front can clear the control arms. The front section can also be pulled out to the sides a little if necessary.

Thanks for the heads up Brian.

The other little tidbit is to notch the rear waterfall so you can install it with the doors on. I know thr factory FFR guys do it that way, but it wasn't relayed in the manual - at least the early version I have. That way you don't have to disassemble/reassemble the doors everytime they are removed. Just pop the water fall, reach in and pop the hinge pins and the door comes off.
